Dry cough for over a week

I hope this is the right forum , if not sorry, but I had irritation in the throat 2 weeks ago then a little fever then sore throat, and now this dry cough, so basically been coughing all together for 2 weeks. There are no other symptoms, no rash, no problem breathing yet, But coughing dry and gets really bad at night, also after coughing for too long during the night i get a bit of chest pain then it goes away. Cough medicines don't do a thing, i started taking sleeping medicines so i can sleep at night. I thought the whole thing would go away, guessing i got a really bad cold from the AC running all night and me sleeping with my shirt off, but iam starting to worry, afraid to start coughing blood at some point because of how heavy it gets sometimes.

I am 25 by the way, sexually active, protection always used. Also still go to the gym and lift weight 4 days a week for bodybuilding( took a week off when i got sick).

what do you think could be the problem? and should i wait it out or go see a doctor.

doctor is my last resort not because they bite or scare me, but because I have no insurance.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

The cough could be due to Asthma. It is a disease affecting the lungs causing narrowing of the airways, usually due to an allergic reaction to triggering factors. Therapy is with bronchodilators which cause the airways to dilate. Your symptoms could also be due to Bronchitis. You will need to consult your doctor who may even ask for blood test and an X ray. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals.

Hope this helped and do keep me posted.
