Eagle Syndrome HELP

I am getting ready to have surgery for Eagle Syndrome.  The lower part of my right calcified ligament will be removed.  I was told that there is a risk of nerve damage during this surgery.  I know that there are risk with every surgery, but is this a high risk or a very minimal one?  All I know is that I cannot take how I feel now, but I certainly do not want to come out of this situation worse.  Does anyone out there have an answer?

I had two lymph nodes, submandibular gland (sialadenitis) and a calcified ligament (right side of neck) removed on Sept. 25, I did okay. Yes i still have a little soreness, ear ache, hurts to swallow, chew and open mouth wide, but it is bearable pain. I am not on any pain medication because I decided to come back to work today. The soreness should go away in another week or so. The incision looks great.

I just had 1.5 CM of my styloid removed yesterday...How did yours go? Mine went fine, no nerve damage that I notice.
