Eagle's Syndrome.

Hi,
I have been diagnosed Eagle's Syndrome and I posted some information into my profile, in the "Journal" section.

I have 3 questions:
1) There seems to be a number of people here with the same problem, but there is not a specific forum for this Syndrome, can one be created? Just search for "styloid" and you will find many in different forums.

2) I want to have feedback from people who had surgery, if they did it internal or external, and what are the results. Also I would like to compare my symptoms with the ones others have, to understand if the problem can really extends up to the eyes or not.

3) Any doctor here who can take a look at the pictures I posted in my profile and give some advise if surgery is the only option? Is there any new technique to threat the problem? I live in Italy and there seems to be no great experience in such cases, so I want to have also another opinion.

Yeah, I saw all your journal postings, the CT pic and the MRI. The styloid is elongated on the side, and if it is giving symptoms, why not do the surgery rather than be ambivalent about it?

I would like to know why your ENT decided not to operate. Or you are not having any symptoms now?

Best,

TA

Hi Tom,
to see my TC, just click on my name in this post (luca73) then scroll down the page where you see "Journal Entries" and then click on "See All". It will bring you to my journal where you can see evolution of it. I'm most probably going to have another TC to see if the ossification is progressing or is still. Any comment/experience appreciated.

Can you pls post the link here. I will try to see the pics.

Usually it is not a big deal. Once you are sure you can feel the tip of the styloid process through the tonsil (of the same side, of course) and it gives the same pain, one does a tonsillectomy, and cuts the tip of the styloid process, and lets the muscles and soft tissues cover the stump.

Best,

Thomas Antony

Hello!
I also have Eagles syndrome.  The symptoms were bad for years, went away, and now it's back. The pain feels like a really bad swollen gland on my neck, and headaches, an more. Really difficult to find answers isn't it?  Years ago I saw a Dr. at UCLA who wanted to do surgery(of course). But it's seems no one really knows what the deal really is.  I felt like he was excited to do the surgery because of the rarity. But not convinced he REALLY knew what was going on. Let me know if you know ANYTHING!
Thanks.
