Ear - Nerve Damage

Went to doctor and was diagnosed with nerve damage in left ear. She said come back in 6th months, test again and then possibly do an MRI if not better. I looked at her and said it won't be better.
Anyway she went on to say that basically there wasn't anything she could do for nerve damage.
Is this really the case? Am I over-reacting? Am I to just "tough" it out?
Thanks for thoughts and responses.

Thanks again; I googled and looks like I need to just deal with it. Oh well.

Sensorineural deafness is what you can google.  There are a variety of causes, including just aging or loud noises.  There are hearing aids, including cochlear devices.  It sounds like she didn't explain it well enough.  I wish I could give you a link to go to but it's not allowed.
