Ear Wax build-up

What can you use over the counter to help disolve ear wax?

I bought some from Walgreens, I can't remember the brand name off hand, but it includes drops and a rubber syringe thingy.  the instructions say to drop 5 to 10 drops in each ear and put cotton in your ears to keep the drops in there.  After a few minutes the ear wax should come out and if it doesnt, then you can use the syringe thingy to flush out your ears with warm water.  I have yet to use the kit, I bought it a couple weeks ago.
