Ear pain, jaw pain and hearing issue

About a month ago my left ear began bothering me - feeling itchy on the inside for example - then two weeks ago, I woke up with my ear feeling full and I wasn't able to hear anything out of it two days in a row. Went to the doctor and they told me it was simply clogged with ear wax and I should be fine. Four days later I got pain in my ear and jaw that persisted all day and night. The pain was a constant pulsing deep inside my ear which was so painful I had to skip some of my classes. I also had to take ibuprofen every 6 hours or so to even be able to function in the day. Also, during the painful days, my hearing was off and it felt like my ear was being covered up and I couldn't hear anything clearly out of my left ear. This continued for four more days and now the pain in my left ear comes and goes, but my hearing is still off and seems muffled all the time.

I am just wondering if I should go back to a doctor if the pain is no longer a constant thing, but my hearing is still off. I am just worried about hearing damage and what could really be wrong with my ear. Thank you so much for the help and feedback I really appreciate it!

Yes, you should in regards to the "muffled" hearing as this is NOT normal.  Plus you state the pain is "on and off."

Yes she removed the excess ear wax and said that I would be fine now after it was removed. But then a week later the pain began. So you think I should reconsult my doctor even though the pain isn't as constant anymore?

I would recommend reconsulting your physician.

Did the physician remove the excess ear wax after he diagnosed this?
