Ear pressure, fullness, Fever

Hello There:

I had some fluid in my ear so my GP put me on 875mg of amoxicillan for 5 days.  I also developed low grade fever since. After 5 days of the antibiotic, I was went for a chest X ray.  All normal.  Blood culture, normal, urine culture normal.

I changed GP after 2 weeks of enduring plugged ear and low grade fever.  The new GP put me on Medrol dose pk to reduce inflammation.  Its been six days. slight improvement in the ear. I feel some trickling sensation and then liquid in my throat.  The fever is constant between 99.5 to 100.

Anyone with similar issues?  Please help I am so tired dealing with this issue.  Its been 3 weeks already.

Hello All:

I had a face X Ray done last Wednesday.  The results showed some haziness around the mastoid bone.  I was referred to an ENT who said I have an Eustachian tube dysfunction. The tube is inflamed.   I am asked to continue my Ibrufen 600 mg twice a day currently.  Prednisol ended the dose last Saturday. I had taken them for a week.

My symptoms are in control but not gone.  I do sense some liquid draining inside.

The thermometer still reads 100F in the ear.

Anyone familiar with this kind of thing?

I find that the best thing for sinus problems is a sinus rinse ( such as neti pot )
This is a saline solution...(salt) has been used for many years to help combat infections and such.

I normally use a sinus rinse and then Claritin nose spray right after it.

Good luck

I went to the doctor today. She says its an inflammation in the sinus area. I sense some drainage but its internal. I sense in the throat from the ear and nose area.

The doc's rationale is this - since there is inflammation there is a blockage of fluid perhaps which is dripping but not completely.  Hence she has recommended two types of anti inflammatory medicines - IBrofen and stronger version of medrol.  Hoping that this combination of anti inflammation drug will reduce the inflammation and allow complete drainage of the fluid build up.

She also recommends taking an XRay or CT scan later depending on what we see in the XRay.

She told me that the fever will be reduced due to the IBbrofen.

Again the waiting game......Its been more than 3 weeks now...

There is a viral infection that has been going around for quite some time. It appears to only affect the ears. Antibiotics will not help a viral infection. I'm wondering if perhaps this is your problem, and not a bacterial infection.

Another possibility is that the eardrum has ruptured.
This will cause the leakage.

Did either doctor give you ear drops? That wasn't mentioned, so I'll assume no.

Any time you have ear discharge and fever, you need to see a doctor.
Does the doctor know about the discharge? About the fevers?
