Eye/Nose question

Eye/Nose question

Not sure this is the right board but here it is:

I've had this condition for about six months, where my vision is a little... off. About six months ago I got this nasal problem where my nose has been persistently blocked and mucous drips down my throat/mouth (post nasal drip), so I have sticky saliva. Also when I got this, there an episodic "nagging" in my right eye - it feels extremely pressurised, like I'm about to go blind or something there's so much pain. A few months after this I began to notice everything look a little weird. Everything I look at kind of looks fake and 2-D. This is especially amplified when I wear my glasses -everything is hard to look at. For this reason, I have no worn my glasses in months. This problem is particuarly distressing  to me as I cannot "see" everything perceptually like I used to.

Now how are the two are related you ask? Well one night when I was watching TV I sneezed, and some clear, sticky mucous (the same consistency as the stuff I get in my mouth from the nasal drip) came out. Weird I thought, so I forced myself to sneeze again by sticking my finger up my right nostril. When I sneezed again (in totaly 4 times), I was getting a LOT of mucous coming out of my nose. Suddenly - everything I saw looked like it used to. Everything look 3D and perceptually-clear. I tested out by putting on my glasses - JUST like it used to be! I was so happy that it was over. But the next day when I woke up, I felt the same again. Everything looked like a visual "fog", nothing went "in". This has happened about 3 times in total, about a month apart. So I'm pretty confident to the two symptoms of mucous and weird visual perception are related.

I've been to the GP- tried 2x anti biotics, 2x nasal sprays, been to an ENT specialist who looked up my nose to check for polyps and didn't know what was wrong with me. He gave me a sinuscleanse thing where you shoot salted water up your nose to clear your sinuses but the one time I tried that it didn't do anything much (I'll continue to use it though; I've only used it once). I also have just been to the opticians, they looked behind my eyes and said everything was OK.

Because I'm fairly certain that the two are related, and I really want to see clearly again... what can I do? Is the mucous deep in my sinuses putting pressure on my eyes and/or brain? What do I say to GP/anyone else? I haven't told them about the weird visual perception and hence don't treat it very seriously. Maybe I should get an MRI or something?

PLEASE help me any way you can, I'm desperate and this condition has been leaving me very depressed.

Thanks.

The first thing I'll tell anyone is to go to an ENT, but you did, and he gave you the best advice available to him.   He's figured out that you have a sinus infection around the eye area.  Unfortunately, the saline prescription he gave you won't wash out the infection, because gravity takes over before it reaches the site of your infection.  Your infection is most likely in the sphenoid and/or frontal sinuses.  (Google Image: sinus) to get a picture.  It's very possible the pressure is messing with your eyes.

The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush is a technique that uses gravity, instead of fighting it, to get saline into ALL of the sinuses to flush out the infection.  It's highly effective, according to the feedback, but it's mildly risky, because you have to bend over, ideally in a shower, although if you are older and feel it's too risky, you could do it outside in the grass or someplace soft.

The other alternative is endoscopic surgery to suck out the infection, which has risks of its own.

Good luck,
friggy.
