I've had very mild tinnitus in my ears for many years now, but for the past few weeks I've been experiencing something new and I'm wondering if anyone knows what it could be. It seems to only occur at night when I go to bed (although admittedly it could just be that I only notice it then because my ear is pressed against my pillow). What I'm hearing in my left ear only is a faint, random "clinking" sound. I first likened it to a metal-on-metal sound, but after some experimentation, I'd say it sounds nearly identical in pitch to the sound of a spoon tapping on the side of a ceramic coffee mug. It's not a constant "clink clink clink....etc", but rather random like, "clink clink.....clink....clinkclinkclink..........................clink....etc" (imagine each dot represents a fraction of a second of silence). The volume at which the clinking occurs varies slightly, but at its loudest is still quite faint - just enough to be mildly annoying while trying to fall asleep. Anyone ever have something similar or know what might be causing this? Thanks!
