Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my tongue... Did you ever found out what it was or a solution for it?
I'm going crazy with this problem.
Please answer if you can!!
Hello, did you ever get a resolution for the tongue condition? I too have it, I've had for over a year and I have tried everything. I got it after taking clyndamycin (antibiotic) that made me really sick. I have been to 9 doctors and no one has a clue. I was told it's benign...but it is extremely annoying and does cause bad breath which is my main complaint. anyway....just curious if you had any updates. I was interested is suing the drug maker but of course no attorneys are interested because they say it can't be proven...how could it not be proven when others have this side effect too? anyway, thanks!
Thanks for sharing. And if you do smoke quit, as this can aggravate the acid reflux.
Hey Everyone,
I just got the results of my CT scan, and thank the Lord, everything looked completely normal.
At this point I guess I am done updating this thread, after all this testing it is confirmed nothing serious ( like cancer ) is wrong with my throat. It's just annoying acid reflux. ( LPR reflux )
I still feel a lump sensation on the left side when swallowing, and I still feel like there is a dry spot in my throat at night while sleeping in the exact spot where I feel this "lump."
But since the CT scan was normal, and since my PH results showed high acid reflux in my throat, it's safe to say this lump sensation is simply LPR reflux.
I will continue taking the Nortriptyline and Pantraprazole. I will also continue my new diet and keep the bricks to elevate my bed. Not eating before 3 hours of laying down helps too. From what I have read and from what my Dr. told me it could take months for the aggrivated throat tissue to go back to normal.
I hope anyone who is freaking out about possibly having throat cancer due to a "lump in the throat" feeling finds this thread. The lump sensation really made me nervous at first, and I was fearing the worst. But if you have no other symptoms and no swollen lymph nodes, you probably dont have cancer.
Regardless, always go to a Dr. to be sure! Better safe than sorry!
Woohoo no Cancer!
Hey folks,
Just an update. It has been about 3 months now of feeling a lump in my throat on the left side when swallowing.
My Dr. switched me to Protonix (pantraprazole) 40mg twice a day, and she added 10mg of Nortriptyline which helps heal aggrivated nerves. I guess she said an aggrivated "vagus nerve" in the neck can cause these lump sensations when swallowing in addition to my acid reflux.
She also is sending me for a CT scan of just my neck as a precaution since Im not responding to meds.
The lump sensation is still there when I swallow. But I have no other symptoms, no swollen lymph nodes, changes in weight/appetite or fevers or anything. I do sometimes get a "dry" throat feeling on the left side specifically. Especially at night. And it has gotten slightly difficult to swallow at times.
We'll see what the CT says.

Yeah, I have acid reflux too. I wish they could have found it like that, though. They inserted a sensor in my esophagus and I had to walk around with this meter that read the acid levels in my chest for 2 days.
I have been taking Omeprazole for like 3 months now and haven't noticed any benefit.
Hello,
Thank you.
I have been to an ENT Dr. about the sensation of a lump.
She looked down my throat with a laryngoscopy camera that went through my nose. She said everything looked normal, and she found no signs of cancer, or lumps/cysts/tumors etc.
Which is good!
She said the bulge in my neck above and to the left of my Adams Apple is my "Submandibular" saliva gland. She felt around and said she could not find any swollen lymph nodes. She pointed out that the Submandibular saliva gland could be felt on both sides, and that this was normal. Although the one on the left appears to stick out more. So I guess that was the "bulge" I am seeing. I can only see this bulge when I tilt my head up and swallow.
The only thing that was not normal about my throat was the bottom of my larnyx/pharynx where it connects to my esophagus was red and inflamed.
She said the reason for feeling a lump in my throat was Acid Reflux. Specifically Laryngealpharyngeal Reflux. Otherwise know as LPR and sometimes called "silent reflux."
She has me on Omepreazole 40mg twice a day. 30 minutes before eating breakfast and dinner.
So far the lump feeling is still there. :(
I go back and see her next month. She also said she might try Elavil medication if the Vagus Nerve is aggravated.
I'll come back and post once things are feeling better.
For now Im just releived I dont have cancer!
My Dad went through cancer, he beat and he is still alive, but has suffered permanent damage to his throat and his saliva glands are destroyed. I dont want to go through that.

Hello and hope you are doing well.
Understand your predicament. It could be a lymph node. Next you could see if any of the draining areas have any evidence of infection, like tonsils, the skin, tooth abscess or an ear infection. Infections like tuberculosis can cause lymphadenopathy. It would be worthwhile to see if other lymph groups are enlarged namely, axilla and groin, these can be palpated, the others like those in the chest or abdomen may need a CT to detect their enlargement. So, if there is persisting enlargement consult your doctor, he may do blood counts and if needed a biopsy to detect the cause.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I also should add the lump feeling has been there about 7 days.
I also have mild heartburn from time to time, but OTC medication keeps it in check when it flares up.
