Fluid in mastiod

Do you have to have ear infection to get fluid in the mastoid bone ...I have it on MRI but I never ever had an ear infection

Thank you for you reply..am waiting on see ENT , do you think a tumor of fibrosis would should as a solid type mass on the MRI not fluid ...am asking as I know nothing about this and any help is gratefully recieved .

Hi, commonly middle ear infections cause infection of the mastoids. Sometimes infection per say may occur in the mastoids. Other causes like fibrosis or tumor may need to be ruled out. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
