High Frequency Hearing Loss - Tinnitus

Recently went to my ENT due to muffled hearing and constant ringing in my left ear. Did a hearing test and results showed I had high frequency hearing loss. The doctor said the most likely reason is a virus that caused hearing nerve damage. The doctor has prescribed Elavil (Amitriptyline) for 3 months to see if it helps. I read up on the drug and it seems to be an anti-depressant. Is this drug safe to take, and will it help with my problem?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Amitriptyline is an antidepressant, but is known to enhance nerve regeneration, hence may have been prescribed by your doctor.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
