Honey Treatment

An old sore throat remedy my grandmother told me was to take a teaspoon of honey. Is this actually proven to help or is it an old wives tale. If this is proven what does the honey do?

From what I hear honey helps to open up the pores in your throat and rehydrate dry mucous membranes which causes saliva to reproduce for a quicker recovery and near-instant relief. Its always worked for me.

I've tried taking mixing honey lukewarm water and couple of drop of lime or lemon myself I WORKS.
