How long will ETD last ?

Hello all ,
I just went to the E.R.  on saturday  because my right ear started hurting really bad , like the pain lvl was beyond 20 on a scale of 1-10  ! i thought i had something in there and it was traveling down my tube .The pain was sooooo bad my ear was popping ,felt like there as liquid in it . well the E.R.  diag. me with ETD , sinusitis , and middle ear infection.  Then after i left my ear popped again and i felt  this warm liq. start to drain and it was a bit watery with blood. then afterward just blood .
Anyways my question was is how long does this ETD  last ?

What happen was over  a wk ago i went ot friends house and she was remodling her kitchen and knocking down walls,counters, bricking , ect . well there was all kinds of dust ,mold ,fiberglass, and god knows what else , she desided to use a shop vac and the back wasnt on it and all that nasty crap blew my way , it made me gag and cough and gave me a nasty taste in my mouth . the next morning i felt like i was getting sick , i coughed up yellow mucus with blood . i started feeling like i has a fever but no fever, very tired ,chills , and body aches . then i started coughing , and just coughing up dark yellow . i felt congested also . then my left ear felt a lil weird but didnt last very long either , and then switched to my right ear.  my right ear started feeling like there was water in it . and started to ache a little . but i didnt think nothing of it . then came saturday  and all of the sudden i had that worste pain of my life , ide rather give child birth again than to experiance that ear  pain again ! i almost felt like something was in there and it was traveling down into the tubes , i totally freaked and i felt like my ear drum was gonna burst . then hubby said ok we gotta go to the E.R.  because this isnt normal . WOW i never knew ear aches could feel like that it felt like i got stabbed by an ice pick or something in the ear !!!  i hope NO ONE  will ever experiance that and if yall have omggg  my heart goes out to yall !

Anyways i just wanna  know how long  this will last cause i have muffled earing now in my right ear , and like a humming sound ,and i still have some pain just a little down the the tube on side of neck .

I would recommend following up with an ENT Specialist ASAP.  It can take some time for this to resolve.

I do have a follow up apt. with my family doctor 2morrow . the E.R.  doc did give me 4 differant meds . ive been taking them since saturday . but so far no relief , i  know it takes time for an infection to go away. But im just wondering how bad is this infection . its really getting annoying not being able to hear fully out of my right ear. its like there is an earplug in there constantly . and the humming or ringing , when i plug my left ear now i can hear the ringing sound like its echoing from my right ear.  my ear did pop saturday and felt like something warm was coming out , but it was watery blood that came out . not much though  but enough to know i was bleeding from the ear . We called the e.r. again and asked if that was normal with this and they said yes .  But like i said i have a follow up apt with my fam. doc. and ill let you know what he thinks . and again thank you for reponding !

If your Family Physician does not have any answers and/or solutions for you, please ask for a referral for an ENT Specialist.

Hello again londres ,
i went to my doc today  he wants me to keep taking my meds the amoxicillin  loratadine , and medrol dose pak .  and now wants me to take tyl w cod. for the pain and  also gave me flonase nasal spray . and wants me too use a neti pot also .

basically he thinks its alliergies and plus the nasty dust i inhaled last wk . and also he thinks it may be due to my broken nose , which was broken when i was 6 yrs old . I got hit by a car when i was 6 and it broke my nose in 3 dif places . i never got it fixed . thank god that was the only thing that was broken on me . cause the car hit my heels of my sneakers and flung me in the air onto the curb. and my face hit the curb.

Anyways ill give this a try  and i just hope this ETD will go away . cause it hurts , and its annoying having muffled hearing and a constant humming sound !!!

Question :  Does these meds with steroids make u gain weight fast?  so far ive gained almost 5 lbs since saturday .  plus i know my eating habits have been a bit more than i would like to , but i also quit smoking cigs 3 months ago .  and ive gained some weight cause of that also . Anyways i hope its just the meds and not me hitting that age to were i blow up like a balloon and cant drop any of it !!!  i mean i just a short lil woman and i was kinda on the plumpy side but not too bad  , but i dont wanna look all round like  a roley poley  at 5 f 2 lol  i seem to be also shrinking in height as i get older too .

Yes, steroids can do this to some people in a short period of time.  I have had the same problem in the past.  I was taking a steroid for 7-10 days and started eating everything I could get my hands on, I mean bags of goodies and treats.  I gained about 5 pounds in that time.  Plus, it can affect your fluid balance; water retention.  I would not worry about it too much, once the medication is discontinued your weight should go back down.

this is a heads up for you!!! i had nose surgery about 2yrs. ago and it almost killed me!!! my ent had to fix my broken nose, he thought i may have broken it when i was little too. he had to rebreak it in 4 different spots to realign it, plus i had a very bad deviated septum, and he had to fix my turbinates. to make a long painful story short, i had the nose surgery, it was out-patient, and it was the worst thing i have ever went through. i would rather give birth to a 16lb baby then to ever have it again!!! he was a terrible doctor, and i am no longer with him!!! my new ent said he really screwed my nose up!!! my septum it sooooo bad now, plus my nose isn't attached at the bottom, between the nostrils!!!!! ugh!!! i was soooo sick after this surgery and when my husband called him for help, because i was unable to call due to the severe pain, the doctor made it seem like i was a wimp, and that i was making a moutain out of a mole hill!!! what nerve!!! i had a severe headache, and i mean severe, for 3 days after the surgery, and i now suffer from chronic headaches and migrrains!!! i have a headache 24/7, and thats no lie!!! i also suffer from severe sinus's now!!!! i think this surgery is what triggered my lupus that i now have, prob didn't cause it, just opened the door for it!!! please please please make sure you get an awesome ent!!! i went by word of mouth from people i knew and look what happened to me!!! research the ent, do the research!!! if you get a quack like me, he/she will mess you up and there is nooooo going back!!! i felt terrible after the surgery and he would not help me!!!! i did go to the hospital during that time, and the er doc said to me while looking at the cat scan, "i have never seen anyone in my life have sooooo much s#&t in their sinus cavities"!!! the surgery caused me to have chronic headaches and migrains, constant plem from chest and nose, nerve pain with my teeth, cheeks, nose, and eyes, plus i have lost my sense of smell most days and my sense of taste is gone most days. i also have severe allergies, but not to any foods. i also, i know this is really gross, i also get huge, and i mean huge green, yellow and bloody chunks of mucus from my nose. i have chronic nasal drip and chest congestion!!! i never used to get the huge nasty mucus from my nose prior to the surgery, never!!! and the mucus smells sooooooo bad, like someone shoved a dead cat up in my face, and it taste equally as bad!!! i will pray for you, truely, that you recover!!! for me, its been two years and i still have no relief!!! my new ent is trying to figure out what to do!!! my next step will prob be cleveland clinic!!!! make sure you get a great ent, please, don't go through what i did!!! i wish you the best of luck!!!

OMG ... i feel so bad for you and the pain and trouble you have went through . My doc basically has asked me like 2 x already when did you get your nose broke , and i told him when i was 6 yrs old  , i got hit by a car !  and he explained to me about ppl getting fixed but it being more of a cosmetic thing than a must have. and in my case that  that would be up to me . and he thinks that might be part of my allergy problem . but right now my ear is still blocked ,and down the side of my neck hurts and it feels puffy . i tried using the neti pot but no luck , i tried lighlty blowing to pop my ears no luck , ive been taking decongestion meds since saturday , and im taking an antibiotic  , he also said he didnt see any infection in my ears . now i am  feeling like i have something on my right tonsicil when i swallow . and  my whole neck on the right side hurts . high pitch sounds make it worse , and i still have the buzzing sound !  

ill keep taking my meds and see if anything changes by next wk . and if i feel it getting worse ill rescedule  an apt . with my md.  

also with the thing you were talking about  if he insists i have nose surgry , no i will most def get a second or third opion on that . i want to make sure that thats what i really NEED , not what the doc wants me to HAVE !
ive lived this long with really no problems with my sinusis . and again im soooo very sorry u had to go through such pain and aginy !
And u said u got lupis cause of this ? may  i ask what r the signs and syptoms (symptoms) and all , i have noticed my cheeks getting red ,and my chest also for no reason .   it may be just from my meds though !

thanks so much for your support. i had my nose fixed because the doc said it would make my sinus problems 100% better. the only thing that came out of this is i can breath a little better through my nose. but if you weigh that against what problems it caused, there is no match. i got way worse then better. with the lupus thing, my family doc is pretty sure thats what i have. it runs in my family. i was never sick like this till i had my two wonderful children and that damn nose surgery. i have the following symptoms:

chronic headaches, 24/7
nausea, vomiting
blurred vision
vertigo
tunnel vision
photosensitivty
seizures
rash on my body, especially when sitting in the sun
unexplained weight loss, 87lbs and counting
severe joint pain and muscle pain
severe severe fatigue
memory loss
mouth and nose sores
lip sores
anxiety
depression
unexplained fevers
chest pain
insomnia
swollen lymph nodes
thinning hair
severe sinus problems
arthritis

the sad thing is, i'm only 30yrs. old. the only reason i even care about life and i get out of bed in the morning is because of my two wonderful children. they are ages 5 and 6. i know what kind of mother i want and could be if i was not soooo sick all the time. i've had enough, really i have. i'm waiting for the doc to call me here in the next couple days to tell me whats next. i have been sick, really sick for about 6 years now. it takes years for a doc to dx a person with lupus. its not just about the lab work, its other things too. for the first time ever, my family doc got to see how sick i get. i sat in the sun before my appt. to cause a flare up so she could see what i go through!!! make sure you get more doc opinions before the nose surgery, make sure you really need it. my nose surgery was not cosmetic, actually, you could not even tell my nose was broken. i hope everthing works out for you, i really do!!!!!
