Intentional Deafness

How can a person intentionally deafen themselves as quickly and as painlessly as possible?  Would supreglue in the middle ear cause deafness? or another substance injected into the middle ear with a syringe through the eardrum?
Can novicane injected into the middle ear cause temporary deafness?

Actually, Intentional Hearing-Loss. This is not a bad idea!

Who needs hearing anyways in this wired world?
As a species I believe this is rapidly becoming a sense we really do not require. If I could trade hearing for more brain power. I would do it in a second.

In Fact, hearing for me is detrimental. I have observed there are just too many humans on this planet and with more humans comes more noise!
They are constantly building roads, cities, home maintenance, traffic, air traffic.

I was deep in the Arizona desert last week and the beauty was continually being interrupted by private jets flying overhead, landing their precious, elite cargo in Scottsdale airport.

Hearing is over rated!

I am with you captain. I have a hearing loss that interferes with life (yes I do work) but don't qualify for much because it is on the line & has been for so long...i just would rather be completely deaf so that way I felt like I belonged rather than keep suffering with what little hearing I have...

I looked this up because I too would like to temporarily cause myself to be deaf.  I am 70% deaf in both ears and I can no longer work as a boat captain.  I am seeking Permanent disability.  However, because my hearing loss is so gradual, I'm good at reading lips and deciphering language from what little I hear.  If I could put drops of something into my ear canal before seeing the audiologist, he/she would surely see how deaf I am and award me disability benefits.  I know this sounds shady, please appreciate my honesty and desperation.  Would you want me to drive the boat your family is on?  It's extremely hard and unfair trying to get these benefits I've paid into for a lifetime.  Being able to temporarily deafen myself would help tremendously.  Thanks.

Before everyone starts attacking you (ooops too late), can I just simply ask why you want to know this?

WHY would anyone want to deafen themselves like that?!  I'm born deaf myself, and I'm fine that way.  But why would I want to undergo destructive ear surgery, with scars, possible facial paralysis, massive infection, and wires coming out of my head (cochlear implant) just so I could hear?  Jeez, that's the equivalent of what you're suggesting about intentionally deafening a person!  You're born hearing, stay that way.  You're born deaf, stay that way.  You abruptly change that, you're gonna need more than Lady Luck to help you.

Just to say in today's day and age you are lucky. Unfortunately deafness is actually an advantage, hearing is a liability. There are bad people in the world and with modern technology being what it is, ultra low frequency emitters like on pranked by ashton kutchner which 'simulate' schizophrenia, or parabolic speakers, or hypersonic, between those things and harassment especially in the hands of people without medical degree's.

I have had such technology used on me for  roughly 20 years. I have suffered 2 brain aneurysms, and basically lead a miserable experience. None of this stuff would work on me if I were deaf, while I love sound... it's probably my favorite sense, it's usefulness is negligible when compared to the trouble caused by being hearing enabled in the modern world.

So while I agree this persons idea is stupid, me being autistic and hearing is a huge liability. None of the technology or methodology which has been used to torture me for the past 20 years would have any effect if I could hear sound.
Couldn't* hear sound.

Only a stupid possibly insane person would even consider intentionally deafening themselves with super glue.

The reality is, there is a way to temporarilly deafen one self, and people do it every day...  It is called Ear Plugs...   a rather neat invention, although very complex, I think you may be able to follow the instructions....  read them carefully, and try to find ear plugs that have "Pictures on the instruction manual."

Hint:

The ear plugs go in your ears, and not any other orfices.

That is one of the most stubid questions I have ever heard.

Vertually anything that you could do, would leave permanent damage. Good luck for your quest for free tuition.
