LaryngoMalacia????

LaryngoMalacia????

Hello,
I am new here, and I need some help.
My daughter is 1 year old, and was just discharged from the hospital with Obstructive Sleep Apne, A large aednoid, mucous all in her sinuses, and larngomalacia.
I really dont understand what laryngomalacia is. I have done research, but dont really understand what this means for my daughter. She has the hardest time breathing when laying on her stomach, and makes the funniest noise when she breathes in. Has anyone ever heard of laryngomalacia? if so, maybe they could lend me some insight and what this may mean for my daughter. Does anyone know if this could be what is making her sleep apnea so bad?
Thank you so much for reading this, I really need some help in understanding all of this!
Denise

Hi my son is now 13 months old and was diagnosed with larynogomalacia at 5 months.   Your daughter should follow up with an ENT because it could be serious.  My son's was very severe and need to have surgery done.  Most children do outgrow it but you should still have your daughter looked.   My son would stop breathing in the night and when they ran the scope down his nose to see his airway it was very tiny.  As far as for her sleep apnea yes this is most likely the cause anyway it was for my son.  I am a respiratory therapist so I was able to diagnose my son early on but some doctors ignore the signs of laryngomalcia if they are not an ENT.  If you need anymore answers or have anymore questions you can email me at ***@****

My son had the same problem from birth. The docs said it would go away on it's own by six mos, then 9, then a year. At 18 mos they did a larangoscopy and broncoscopy and found nothing. It finally did go away around 2 years and he's been fine ever since. No lasting problems with it. Every paitient is different. I was told it's the epiglotis. My sons was too long and too tightly rolled up. When he was breathing it would fall into the breathing tube and rattle, hence the noise when he was breathing.
