My 3 year old suffers throat and ear problems all the time

My 3 year old daughter is constantly suffering from a soar throat with white ulcers and painful ears along with a fever. This has been going on for just over a year and we take her to doctors on average twice a month. Each time we are told that there is nothing wrong and that we are imagining the symptoms eventhough they never examine her. She now has started to get thrush in her mouth as she is so run down.
I was very similar when I was a child and the same doctors finally decided to take my tonsils out when I was 20. I have never had an infection since. But I suffered for 20 years. I do not want my daughter to end up the same way.
I'm at my wits end as to what to do next, how can I get the doctors to take notice of what I am saying. We are all so tired as we are up most nights with her and still have to carry on the next day, I dont know how much longer we can go on like this.
I have very little confidence in the NHS lately with a condition the doctors missed in my son. Is it time to go private? If so can anyone tell me how to go about this and does anyone know how much it will cost?

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your reply. I forgot that this is an American website. I am from the UK and health care is provided by the National Health Service (NHS) althouth they refused to treat my son's Plagiocephaly after ignoring it for so long and us having to pay for it privately but thats another story.
We pay loads of tax from our pay for this service which is not optional but I do feel it is letting us down.
I think I'm going to get my husband to come with me tomorrow to the doctors they seem to listen more to men. When I go they make out that I am stupid. I think I will just ask for a referal to a specialist like you recommended. They will have to listen to us eventually.
Again thank you.

I am sorry to sound stupid but can you tell me what NHS is?

as a parent if you truly feel something is wrong with your child then you HAVE to keep going until you find someone that is listening. Even if it means traveling some distance (trust me I don't want to travel with the price of things lately but we have had to)

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY knows thier child better then the parents. Can you video tape her being up all night, maybe then they will believe you. I know it shouldn't have to come to that trust me I had to take pictures of my son's HR and him turning blue in order for the doctors to FINALLY listen to me after 3 3/4 years.

If NHS is insurance do you need a referral to see a specialist? I would tell your primary, that you want to see an ENT (do yuor research first to find an ENT that you feel comfortable with an then make an appt with the Prinarmy to get referred (most times you can get in quicker with a referral from your primary, but sometimes when you call you can get in quicker witha cancellation list or just by telling them your issue)It sonds to me like your primary doctor doesn't like to listen even when you were a little tyke. good luck
