Nasal pain, severe fatigue, not getting better

by Zebes, Nov 06, 2007 12:57PM
I am looking for help on my condition that is actually getting worst.  Over the past month, I have not been to work (I'm a pilot) due to pain/pressure feeling on the left side of my nose, some fullness feeling in the ears, a little soar throat with some hoarsness and terrible fatigue.  Very rare sneezing and coughing and nothing coming out of my nose.  Have had chronic slight pain pressure on upper left side of nose and often had mild to moderate infections that clogged up my ears treated mostly with OTC Sudafed and was able to function alright.  Have had fatigue issues for a long time also, but nothing severe until this past month where I'm not refreshed and have done nothing much besides lay around and watch TV/Internet.  Caffeine has little effect.

3 weeks ago went directly to ENT who started me on Flonase and Amoxocillin for 10 days.  Flonase actually stung a little and quit that after a couple days.  A couple days after first appoinment, doc prescribed nasal irrigation with a coresteroid additive along with Afrin for 5 days and saline spray throughout the day.  Little or no effect.  Amoxocillin didn't do anything.  Precribed antiobiotic Avelox, now on 10th day.  5 days ago, saw a different ENT who told me to continue the Avelox plus an oral prescription of Prednisone 20 mg and I'm on 5th day.  He looked at CAT scan which he described again as showing a small sinus infection and suggested I may be suffering from Migraines as the symptoms and severity don't match the scan.

I have more of a constant pain and pressure that occasionally is more severe.  But very little nausea if any that would indicate Migraines.  Some light sensitivity and I wonder if eyestrain is part of the deal since I stare at a laptop and the TV quite a bit.  My medical history includes mild Ulcerative Colitis (not present now), Septoplasty (which did straighten my nose 15 years ago), and LASIK surgery 2 1/2 years ago.

Could it a problem with my Adenoids (adenoids) (I'm 30)?  Another ENT appointment on Friday.  Any suggestions?

You would expect if this was an infection that the avelox and prednisone would help decrease the pain from inflammation from infection.

Migraines often cause headache, nausea, eye symptoms of pain and pressure, so yes it could be migraine.  If after reviewing the CAT scan he suggested migraine did you end up trying imitrex, relpax, maxalt, emerge or anything else?
