Thankyou for your answers. I was looking to get lets of help & information to pass on to my ex husband as he seems to think it's ok to smoke around children.
I have printed off all the information i have got from here to show him.
I, too, have nasal polyps. They do not usually actively cause issues, unless they start blocking the passageways of the sinuses, causing inflammation, congestion, etc. HOWEVER, when the lining of the nasal passageways become irritated or inflamed, by smoke, dust, allergens, etc, the nasal polyps can exacerbate the situation, and make things worse. Expect that when he goes to stay elsewhere that he will be dealing with this, and make sure he has something that can help with the sinus issues before, during, and after his visit, (sinus meds, allergy meds, etc.) It would be MOST helpful to keep him away from people who smoke, in general.
Thankyou for your answer it was very helpful. I can now pass this information on to the other people in question.
Polyps are sometimes caused by allergies or irritants. Smoke is a big irritant and can cause extra inflammation. This in turn can cause more congestion and worsen the polyp growth.
