Need some advice PLEASE..polyps removed in 08 no smell now :(

i had the op to remove my polyps back in march 08, had a huge one in my right side that went right up to my brain! they was removed successfully

after that my smell and taste was back,,,which was AMAZING! but now it comes and goes! Really annoying..smelling is like the best sense in the world when u have it....i get it over the day come and go! and my taste is non existent...i can have a table spoon of cod liver oil and not taste it one bit! it makes food boring now Sad..but the thing is, when i blow out of my nose hard and have something near my nose to smell i can!! so it seems something is blocking it again? and some days it comes back..but taste has only showed its face for couple of mins...if the nose receptors are blocked does that block the taste..I'm scared I've lost my taste for ever!

Can i do anything to get my smell back eventually or a couple of taste buds back!! PLEASE HELP

Thanks

I had sinus surgery and got my sense of smell back after 6 years of not being able to smell. My dr recommended to use NASONEX for life. since that shrinks polyps. Start using that everyday twice a day along with Neilmed rinse.

Thanks for the reply..iv'e posted on another 3-4 forums with not one reply!!

I've had this for 3-4 months, could a sinus infection last that long?  but I do get a lot of jelly like mucus when i clear throat and nose...but I thought an infection normally goes after certain time as your body fights it...

i'm in the UK so can i get that rinse kit here?  i was looking for some nasal steroid?

You most likely have a sinus infection that blocks the path to your olfactories.  I used to lose my smell when i had chronic sinus problems.  In fact, it made me desperate enough to try the technique which became ultimately successful in curing all of my sinus problems forever.  Solutions:

Go to ENT, get antibiotics, see if that works

or, get a Neilmed Sinus Rinse at the drugstore, which has a better chance of working

or, go to my journal and try a Flip Turn Sinus Flush.  It's risky, because you have to bend over in a shower to get the saline where it has to go, but it's highly effective.  I think the greater risk is losing your sense of smell, which can be severely depressing.

Oh, and don't use any anti-cold pills with zinc, that can also mess up your sense of smell.
