Ongoing sore throat and breathing difficulties

by col81, Jan 23, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 25 year old male. I have been having recurring breathing difficulties on and off for about 6 months now (I don't have asthma). I am very breathless when I first wake up, and any rigorous exercise can make it worse. I play the trombone and sing and these can also bring on breathlessness. I have had a chest xray, blood tests and an ECG and all tests have come back perfectly normal. For the past 2 weeks I have also had a very sore throat, which is very scratchy and feels like I have been breathing in cold air (not painful, just uncomfortable). Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing my problems, and is it worth me asking my doctor to book me an appointment at the ENT clinic to see if my throat is the root cause of my problem?
I eat quite healthily and exercise fairly regularly. I work shifts in an office environment.
It's starting to slow my life down and, therefore, get me down. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks in advance

If it feels like you're breathing in cold air, there's a chance you may also be breathing in too-dry air... have you got a humidifier you can use for a few weeks to see whether that improves things at all?

I don't have a humidifier, but the office I work in certainly gets very dry so it's worth a try. Any other suggestions?

i agree, your throat is experiencing dryness, you probably snore at night, a humidifier will definitely help. you may also be a mouth breather, do you have a deviated septum?

Hi I've had exactly the same which I'm only just now experiencing. Did you sort your problems out?

I am waiting to see a specialist because I keep being told I have asthma but I think what ever I have is more than just asthma!!!
