Perforated eardrum- does my child need to see an ENT specialist

I took my 2 year old to see the pediatrician suspecting he had an ear infection.  She took a look and said that his eardrum was actually ruptured but it looks like it was healing up on his own.  She pulled some pus and blood out of his ear and then put him on antibiotics (Cedax) and said to come back in two weeks for a recheck.  My question is....she seemed very nonchalant about the whole matter as if this happens all the time.  But I'm concerned about hearing loss.  Do I need to take him to an ENT specialist to be sure?
