Persistent Cough going on for about 2 years

I've had a persistent dry cough for about two years, which started to get worse after I had my tonsils removed last year in July..I also need emergency surgery for a haemmorage on this too. The cough occurs at any time of day or night and often I am kept up with it. Sometimes it feels like I am on 40 cigs a day but I don't smoke. I have been in and out of hospital with this but no one seems to know what is going on. So can you help?
