Pseudomonas ear infection

Pseudomonas ear infection

My 15 year old son has been treated with antibotics for a month now, for an ear infection.  first amox. then bactrium, and final a culture was done on the drainage.  He has pseudomonas in his ear and was getting the wrong treatment.  He is now on cipro orally and tobramycin ear drops.  Has anyone ever had this before and will the treatment work, will it go away or not and how long before the antibotics kicks in.  His ear is really hurting him

I hope his ear is better! I am 26 and have the same infection. I have had it for a month and half or two now. I started out with amox, then something else, and finally cipro. I have also had three rounds of ear drops, even had to have a wick put in my ear just to get the drops to the ear. This has been the most painfull ear infection I have ever had! I had to be given pain meds, too just so I could sleep. I fianlly went to a specialist who told me my ears looked pretty good, but gave me one more round of drops just to make sure. It is now a week since I finished them and my pain is starting to come back already. I have read up on it a little bit, and typically it is not this difficult to get rid of. The reiment they gave you should have worked. I am just one of the lucky ones who have to deal with it longer!

I had pseudomonas infection in my ears & went thru all the recommended antibiotic treatments w no results. My lab manager & I did our research & found that pseudomonas can't live in a highly acidic environment.
We mixed a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar - then syringed it into my ear.
It stung like hell, but within 3 treatments, we cleared it up...

Good luck!

I have had and ear infection in both ears for the last 2 months, I was treated with flucloxacillin which cleared in the ear it started in, I had my ears syringed as the doctor told me that my ears were waxy, but I still couldnt hear and went back, I was given Otomize spray,  as it had gone in the other ear too, that didnt work, went back again and was given a weeks course of 500mg of Clarithromycin (1 taken twice a day), the infection has cleared up now, but still cannot hear properly! and is muffled, but i just got to wait and see if it comes back properly

My dad is currently sufferng with the same thing...nearly six months of mis-diagnosis and wrong antibiotics....costing him an arm and a leg.  I called the clinic and had a fit knowing that my Dad was not recieving the proper treatment.  See the doctor many times with the same complaints...he was given an antibiotic that wasn't working, saw the doctor and he put him on the same round of treatment...it didn't work again.  Drained it...it didn't work.  When I called I asked why they hadn't done cultures...I'm not a medical professional, but do know that there are ways to diagnos infections.  When speaking with the nurse, she told me to tell my Dad to mention to the doctor that he wanted cultures...it's not my dads responsibility to tell the doctor how to do his job!!  I think that my Dad now has osteomyletitis as a result of too many misdiagnosis and frankly poor treatment.  It is a very difficult infection to treat and can take several rounds of treatment...so I urge all of you to be patient, however, if you feel chronic headaches, jaw pain or anything similar...don't hesitate to call your doctor or get a second opinion.  Anyone that is immune compromised, diabetic or in general poor health, should take this very seriously.  Cipro and drops are an appropriate treatment regime, but can come back again, keep your ear dry and if your a woman, keep cotton etc, in your ear when using hair-spray etc.  Good luck to all of you.  Take your medical care by the horns...it's okay to do research, ask questions of your doctor and know what his treatment plan is.  It's your patient bill of rights.  Side note, my husband is a family practice physician.  A few years ago,  my daughter had what I thought was "pink eye"...he disregarded my opinion and even after many feelings of something wasn't right, he still told me it was pink eye and she wouldn't be treated anyway.  Doesn't matter your education...of which I have none, he was wrong.  it was pink eye and left untreated in her case, it turned to cellulitits.  for a 6 year old...that's scary stuff.  So, they don't know it all.
