I just open my mouth and shine a flashlight. not hard to see..
I'm a senior, so I have memories of the 1950s and earlier when it was considered a good preventive measure to remove tonsils - I have mind, we didn't have that kind of money to spend - but I do remember some school mates having tonsils out and saying they got to eat ice cream after to help them feel better... we didn't get much ice cream either, so you know how good it all sounded to me.
I know the practice of removed tonsils "just-in-case" is no longer done, but that experience suggests to me that the operation itself is relatively quick and easy (Suppose harder for adults than children) - thus if one is having problems related, or possibly related, to tonsils and a doctor thinks it may help to remove them, I'd go for it.
Reading your post I wonder how you are seeing all these things in the back of your throat.. are you using mirrors and bright lights? Yes, I've looked at my teeth , maybe my tongue if I happen to bit it, but I don't remember ever trying to look at my tonsils.
Good luck.
Forgot to mention..there are also little flesh colored bumps right above my tonsils. .
