Sharp pain behind the ear.

Hello, I'm hoping somebody could suggest what is wrong with me :)

The pain is located under the cartlidge of the 'tragus' and it reappears directly behind my ear in the soft area between my ear and skull.

I wondered if it was jaw-related, but the hinge of my jaw doesn't feel nearer so it left me wondering if I was straining tendons or something.  The pain has happened before and disappeared.  I'm short of going to the doctor about it because I have a very high pain threshold and find this like a sharp jabbing sensation which genuinely makes me screech 'Ow!!"'

I would be grateful of any help, because if it's something I'm able to avoid great!  If not then I'll have to beek myself an appointment. I've tried rubbing lightly over the area in case it was a muscle knot, but alas.. more pain grr..!
