Sinus Infection

Hello Dr.
I'm male 5'10  180  25 years and could be considered as a healthy
I'm from Chicago and I was having pressure in my face especially my forehead and upper cheeks, fever, headache and an irritated ears.
I went to a clinic that is part of CVS and I was diagnosed with sinus infection last Sunday.
the following was prescribed:

Amoxicillin (875 mg oral tablet) 2 times a day
Nasal Saline (every 3 hours)
Ibruprofen (200 mg) every 6-8 hours

there is improvement except for ear popping.however, 2 days ago I went to Michigan and slept at my friends.
I woke up in the middle of the night and i felt so cold and my head is cold. (since my friend turned on the A/C)
when i woke up, I felt fatigued in my body and my head.
Now, i feel a sore pain and headache (little pain in my forehead) with little fatigued and i'm still having popping in my ears.

My question is, why the sinus infection does not go away ?
Is my body having difficulties to fight it ?
I'm concern about complications that might develop !!
Is there any way to prevent any complications ?
how do i get better ??
Thank you so much and your helping is highly appreciated.

Hello Dr. Anitha
In fact, I went out of Chicago for 9 days to Honolulu which is sunny and warm
Once I came yesterday to Chicago I felt little sore pain
I ate spicy food then I forecly blow my nose to get rid of mouse.
I woke up this morning and I have pain in my head. The area above my forehead and under my eyes and on my nose sides are swelling.
Is that because Chicago weather or because of blowing my nose ?

By the way, i have not used the Fluticasone Propionate because I used "Ketoconazole tab 200mg" from 02/10/12 to 02/16/12 and it says on the drug's instructions that there might an interaction between steroids drugs even in months after! So I decided not to use it until today because of the swelling I might use it depends on another opinion.

I used Vicks Vapolnhaler and not sure if it's working or not

I would like to thank you agin Dr. Anitha because you are so helpful by answering my question. I really wanna this sinus problem to go away and live healthy like I always had. I'm I going to be healthy again ? I hope there will not be any complications as a result of sinus problems that I'm having

Thanks again and your help is highly appreciated

Hello and hope you are doing well.

As the inflammation and infection subside the tubes should clear up. The fluticasone propionate, may help with the inflammation. Steam inhalations and warm salt water gargles can also help clear the tubes.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your comment
In fact, I don't have any problems with my sinus anymore except for the ear popping. The ENT prescribed fluticasone propionate which I have not used until now because I'm concern about the side effects. My question is can the ear popping resolve by itself ?? Without using fluticasone propionate ? Or complications might happen like ear infection if I don't use fluticasone propionate ? Is there any natural or remedy ways to make the ear popping to go away ?

Thank you so much which I really appreciate your help

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Sinus infections can cause the popping in the ears, as inflammation in the nose and sinuses can cause inflammation around the Eustachian tube, which is the tube that runs from the back of the nose to the middle ear and is responsible for draining the middle ear of fluid.  If there is Eustachian tube dysfunction from nose or sinus inflammation, fluid can remain in the middle ear which can lead to ear pain. As the infection resolves, your symptoms should come down.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you so much guys
I really appreciate your help.
Althought, I just came from the doctor today, he said that everything looks normal. However, I still have two problem. One is the popping in my both ears which I can handle. The second which make me stressed out is pain under my both ears. The doctor said it was from mucles. But it increase when I listen to music or using my cell phone.
Anyone have any idea ??

Good advice from tschock.  It's been in the news lately that Amoxicillin has not effect on sinus infections, but we've known that here for years.  A Neilmed Sinus Rinse is also good for saline, and blowing up balloons helps with the popping.

You'll need to give it more time.
You've only been on medication for a week, and most medications take that long to start working.
Avoid wind blowing in your ears...place cotton in your ears when outside.
On top of what you are already using, you could try a nasal rinse ( neti pot ).
Don't blow your nose with force. Gently breathe out the nose when blowing it...this will help with the popping.
Have you had any allergy testing?  Allergies contribute to a great deal of sinus problems.
Keep following your doctor's advice, and you should feel better within a week.  If the symptoms continue after this, see your doctor again.
