Super painful throat

About 3 months ago, I started with a feeling of food stuck in the right side of my throat after eating.  That really did not bother me much, although it was annoying.  But now, the right side (lower right, just above my collar bone area) my throat is really painful.  Any food or liquid that I eat causes the pain to flare up and it is quite severe.  It feels like someone is touching my throat with a hot tourch.  The pain will last all day.  So far, I have had a barium swallow, an optic tube through my nose, a sope down my throat into my tummy , and blood tests.  All have come back with "everything looks normal" results. Antiacids, cold water, nothing helps once the pain kicks in.  Actually, the only pain free time for me now is in the morning when I wake up.  I rarely feel it after sleeping for a while, but once I eat some breakfast (even plain oatmeal) the burn comes back.  My throat seems like it really ultra sensitive.
Any feedback would be welcome

hI,

Well, That is what it feels like!  But, I have already had a Gastro Doctor look at my throat and tummy with a scope and an ENT look at the top part of my throat though my nose.  There is no visable damage or ulcers (I guess that is good news on the cancer front).
I went to my GP today, he has lined me up for a MRI and a chest x-ray.  I guess it could be something in the soft tissue causing this, but my throat is without a doubt super sensitive to food and just about anything can set it off.  Right now it almost feels like I have a cut down there  It sort of stings and feels wierd.

It might be an ulcer and if acid is coming up and irritating it, that is going to be quite painful,

I hope you find out more at the doctors tomorrow. Will you please post and let me know how it goes?

Good luck, unclerob,

Thanks, it does...This may not be GERD,  the pain is really accute and only in the back lower right side of my throat and prylosec does not help.  right now it feels like a painful boil stuck in my throat.  This is AFTER I took some galvascon about an hour ago.
what is going on with my fricking throat??  I am geting very fed up dealing with this and pain meds do not really help at all (Tylonol 3 or Vicaden).  I am going back to my Dr. tomorow.  Do you have any more ideas??  Could this be a symptom of something completely different??

Hi Unclerob,

I took this from the Medical Symptoms database:

Patients with gerd also tend to get the feeling of a sour or salty taste at the back of their throats due to regurgitation. This can sometimes happen even if the pain of heartburn is absent.

I hope this helps...

Hi Melissa,
Thanks  I will check it out.  Right now my throat is really burning and all I have had to eat was a liquid Boost energy (like ensure).  Also,  I have this strange taste in my mouth as well allmost like a salty taste.  Is this a symptom of GERD?

Hi Unclerob,

After doing some reading, I found this message board about ambien and indigestion. Here is the link:

It seems many people get acid reflux/indigestion on this medication.I would definitely talk to your doctor about it.

It sure feels like acid in my throat!  If I do not eat breakfast (including drinking water) the pain is not as bad.  When I lay down, the pain remains the same. It is only after a good nights sleep is when the pain is gone for a while. After I eat, it comes back.  The gastro doctor did not any sign of reflux damage (redness, etc).  Could my tummy acid still be sneaking up anyway?
Is there any possible connection between this pain and the usage of the sleep medication Ambian??  I have been off it for a week but not much change in my throat pain.  Ambian seems to have o ton of very wierd side effects that I had no idea about when I started using it for my insomnia.

That's so strange that it doesn't happen until after you eat. It seems that it would be related to acid reflux but I'm assuming they checked for that. Your symptoms seem to be acid related. If you waited until noon to eat would the burning and pain stay away until then? Any other info you can give would be helpful. Is it okay at night? Is it worse laying down?

I'm really sorry that you are dealing with this and hope you find some answers. If you write down on here what a typical day is like and when the pain starts, ends what you do befoer and after maybe that will help....
