Swollen Right Tonsil

About five weeks ago I was diagnosed with Mono and along with all the other syptoms I had swollen tonsils with lots of white pus on them and an extremely sore throat. Now five weeks later I am feeling better and my glands have gone down, the pus on the tonsils is gone but my right tonsil still looks swollen. I've never looked in my mouth before so don't know what it is exactly supposed to look like but my left tonsil looks totally different from my right. Is it normal for one tonsil to remain swollen for awhile after mono? How long can I expect this to last?

Please take your child in for a blood test.. My son had a swollen glaned on one side.. The Dr. told him it was strep without a strep test.. So he gave my Justin a z-pak.. He wasn't getting any better so after a few days and the Dr. not giving a **** I took him to the ER. Seems his sore throat went septic. It wasn't a swollen glane or Strep Throat it was a VERY DANGEROUS BLOOD CLOT.. After a wk of his admision to the Hospital not knowing what was wrong with Justin the Dr. in the PICU told us he had Lemierre's Syndrome..from a BLOOD TEST.. not a dipstick test..They put him on the right meds which was Zocin..but after a month of laying in a Hospital bed on life support he passed away. He finally got the right meds but it was to late for his body..  Lemierre's Syndrome is deadly if not given the right meds.. The ones suffering are our children.. Justin was only 17.. a yr after Justin passed we know of several teenagers that has gotten this DREADED DISEASE some lived with horrible side afects, some died because the Dr's aren't aware the FORGOTTEN DISEASE is back.. and the Z-pak is not the right meds.. Say no to Z-PAK !!!! If he would of been givin amoxicillin he would of had a fighting chance.. Please ck out our web site.. www.lemierresyndromejrodgers.blogspot.com & www.lemierresyndrome.com  R.I.P. Justin Rodgers.. We will love & miss you every min of every day.. You will NOT be forgotten.. PLEASE lets keep our Children safe & healthy.. This isn't an epidemic going around but Please becareful and look out for your child.. I never thought this would happen to us.. Now we're the ones crying for our youngest son Justin..

My son is 5 years old and about a month ago I took him to the drs for a right swollen tonsil and I was and still am concerned, its only on one side and he says it doesnt hurt. i am very paranoid (partly because im 7 months pregnant), my old neighbor just found out her daughter had cancer and she had no symptoms. I just hope this doesnt mean theres something else going on, it hasnt gone down yet so Im gonna make another aoot for him. Any thoughts in the meanwhile?

My right one is swollen too! but i have more problems. Im 15, a girl, and I have tonsilloliths which i heard can sometimes contribute to a swollen tonsil. I gargle with salt water 3 times a day and mouth wash 2 times a day and I brush my tounge with my toothbrush. They come every 3 days or so. I included a picture of my tonsils. On the right side you will see a large hole on the tonsil. I am fully aware that it is normal to have tonsil crypts but I feel that this one is extreemly big, deep and wide. When i push on the sides of it, a tonsil stone or tonsillolith often comes out. Its discusting. I am a singer and I am actually pretty good. I just won my highschool's version of american idol and I want to avoid a tonsillectomy at all costs because I heard it can change your voice. Is this hole normal size? I have seen other peoples tonsils and they do not have any holes nearly this size. I dont feel much pain, but when I try to sing really hard, i do feel some pain which I didnt feel last year...but I am pretty sure id doesnt have anything to do with my tonsils. They may look red in the picture but they are not in real life. My right one is bigger then my other one...again I am not sure if this is normal. PLEASE HELP! I am going to see an ENT doctor as soon as I can

yes, sorry about the no insurance. I've been there. Try a gargle mix of 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 mouthwash or a mix of warm salt water to gargle and spit out. It should help some. Best wishes to you.

I don't have a follow-up appointment, because I don't have insurance. That's just why I was a little worried about the tonsil being still swollen - though it does look much better than when it was awfully swollen with tons of pus. I guess five weeks from the onset of mono would still be fighting the virus? I know it can last awhile, just wasn't sure if it was normal for a tonsil (one side) to be swollen for so long.

Your tonsil is still fighting the infection. This can take several weeks to reduce in size. Do you have a follow-up appt?
