Swollen throat

About 9-10 months ago, I was diagnosed with Strep throat. The doctor that diagnosed me was very concerned about the size of my tonsils, he told me that my uvula was deviated and he was worried about them but since he was from a low cost clinic he knew I couldnt afford to go the ER. So, treated me with strep and the swelling went way down. Every since then, I go through days where I still have trouble with the swelling coming back. The problem is that when I search for symptoms everywhere says that sore throat goes along with that symptom. I do not have a sore throat. It has gotten bad enough now that my throat feels closed off and when you look inside my mouth you can clearly see there is not much space between tonsils and my uvula is rubbing one of them.THe tonsils appear to be slighty red but other than that they do not appear to have spots or white anything on them.  I have begun having problems sleeping as a result of this. I have no health insurance, in this day and age it is too hard to get it. I want to know what the problem could be.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Recurrent tonsillitis is an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils may harbor the infection which keeps flaring up, or they may develop new infections. Sometimes persistent enlargement of the tonsil can sometimes be due to a lymphoma. It would be worthwhile to see if other lymph groups are enlarged namely, axilla and groin, these can be palpated, the others like those in the chest or abdomen may need a CT to detect their enlargement. Sometimes the tonsil may be removed for histopathological study. You will need to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation, who may then refer you to an ENT specialist.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
