For the past two years, I have had very thick mucus in my throat that makes me have to constantly clear my throat or hack it up and spit it out. When I am able to hack it up and spit it out, it is the consistency of glue and can be clear or green in color. Most days I cannot go more than 2 minutes without trying to clear the mucus out of my throat. It affects my voice and I have to stop talking often to try to fix the problem. I also have problems singing, which never happened before this issue started. I have seen many doctors and after trying Flonase, Nexium, Zantac, Xyzol, a daily sinus rinse, Allegra, benzonatate, Albuterol and many OTC mucolytics, nothing has helped. I was tested for allergies and I was not allergic to anything, (not even ragweed. When I requested a sputum sample, my ENT laughed and told me what I was hacking up was "just boogers" and that there is "absolutely nothing wrong with you" and she did not even test it. She said that I need to get rid of the habit of clearing my throat and that I was getting to the age where people develop uncomfortable sensations that they just have to deal with (I'm 20). I have tried to stop hacking, but the mucus builds up and it makes me feel like I'm choking and I really don't think I can break the habit. At this point, I'm desperate for some sort of relief, but no doctors seem to be able to help me. This problem is affecting my everday life and makes me miserable all day and all night long.
