Please some advice, I am gonna see the doc but would like other opinions. I have had a lump sensation in my throat for about two weeks now. Its to the side of my adams apple (letf) but internal feeling, in other words no lumps or bumps visible.
What worries me is when I swallow I feel a dull pain or ache on this side and it seems to be consistent. I've had lump sensations before in the past and other throat issues, I seem to have a weak throat or something, always giving me issues eg. I cough a lot and get a lot of mucus or flem...like when you clear you're throat. Very irritating.
Anyway this worries me because of the slight pain/ache I'm getting when swallowing, although it doesn't effect me eating or drinking, that soothes it actually.
Another small issue is my left nostril. It tends to bleed easily, not full nose bleeds but whenever I wipe it or use some tissue there's sometimes a tiny bit of blood, as if the skin on the inside is weaker than the other nostril. Sometimes its OK but most times there's some blood, should I be concerned about this?.
Many of us suffer with nose bleeds, esp when the weather is dry.
If you have a sore that won't heal inside the nose, then you should be concerned...if there is no open ( painful ) sore, then it's probably caused by a thinner than average lining.
The throat is a different story.
It could be a polyp, or some type of infection.
Could also be caused by anxiety...but that does not generally cause pain.
Nose: there is no sore I don't think, it just happens but only one nostril. I have had sores in the nostril before, sore skin/scabs, almost like a tiny bit of eczema, dry skin. Had to put special cream on it which cleared it up fine but maybe that has caused a weakness in the nostril lining?. My dad has had the same thing.
Throat: I find the pain isn't bad, as if you've pulled a muscle, dull, or maybe coughed too hard, it doesn't actually hurt. Eating drinking makes it feel like its gone, sometimes it seems to be better but comes back. It could be anxiety but I'm not anxious as far as I know hehe
I do get a an irritating tickle (in the throat) or sensation to cough at times.
I have had a lump sensation (years ago which lasted awhile) before which I think was anxiety so maybe its this again but it came outta nowhere.
OK I'm seeing the doc on Mon. The whole thing seems to be changing from moment to moment. Its generally a bit of a dull soreness or a stretched feeling on one side of my adams apple. But at times it seems to be OK or move to the middle of the throat and feel like an anxiety lump which I've had before.
Still doesn't effect eating or drinking, just swallowing normally.
Well I'm gonna be sent to the hospital for a check, which I expected, The doc didn't really tell me much, didn't give much away, again as I expected, they don't like to commit themselves I think.
If I could just ask folk here for some opinions....
I've had this now for almost three weeks. first week it seemed much like nothing, I hardly noticed it, I forgot about it really. Second week is where I really noticed it, most uncomfortable. This week it kinda seems to have gotten a bit better but its still there. So its only been bad for two weeks really.
Basically a dull ache in my throat, kinda feels like a lump sensation. Doesn't effect my eating, drinking or breathing, only swallowing without food or drink oddly.
Seemed to be to the side of my adams apple, but now it feels like its moved to just above my apples adam around the hyhoid bone area but just to the side and further back or deeper. I must also mention I do get a sore hyhoid bone from time to time also, that can't be good, although not often.
Seems to come and go, sometimes my whole throat feels 'heavy' or achey as if I've I'm ill with a common infection/virus. Then other times I just feel this one area when swallowing, but its odd how it seems to have moved.
Recently when I yawn I feel it, but when eating, drinking or breathing its fine, really weird. No external lumps, bumps or swellings, inside of the mouth looks fine I believe.
I've been having problems with my throat for a long time now, here and there. I admit I am anxious about it now so I guess that doesn't help, I worry and think the worst soooo.
I'm hoping I'll get a camera up the nose but in the mean time any ideas would be nice, as long as they're not gonna make me really worry hehe.
Sorry to post again but I'm rather worried I must admit. The pain seems to have subsided somewhat but there definitely feels like a small lump in the throat, just above the adams apple on one side.
I feel it when I yawn and cough, but I don't cough a lot or anything. But it does feel like it and its been consistent for 3weeks now really. I'm worried that the only thing it could be is cancer or a tumour, what else could it be because I really don't think its anxiety.
Does it hurt to speak or does it feel normal? I have throat issues as well. Not really around swallowing, but you could have similar issues to what I have. You may have acid reflux. Even if you don't feel a burning sensation, it could cause pain when swallowing and make you feel like you have mucus. If you keep clearing your throat and trying to cough things up, it can make the pain worse and actually irritate your throat a lot more.
I think the most likely thing is that you will go to the doctor and they wont know what your problem is, but will offer a wide variety of solutions that they hope will solve the problem. You may have post-nasal drip so they will give you a nasal steroid. You may have acid reflux so they will prescribe PPIs and tell you to change your diet. You could have an infection so they will give your antibiotics.
I am surprised your ENT didn't do anything but tell you to go to the hospital.
Well I'm actually in the UK so things may be different. The doc's normally send you to the hospital if they think it might be something that needs checking, just to make sure.
I don't have pain when talking no, I sometimes feel the area for a split second on occasion when I speak or begin to speak if you get me. In general it only irritates when I yawn, cough or swallow naturally. Not so much pain, just a dull ache or dull soreness as if I had scratched the inside or I had a nasty spot their...if you get me. An irritating soreness.
Its been 3 weeks, the dull pain does seemed to have moved areas though but still in the same general region near the adams apple. I was thinking maybe the hyoid bone is damaged or somehow infected as that has been sore in the past on occasion, god knows why.
Even if its not something as serious as cancer there is something not right going on in there, I've had throat issues for the last 3 years or so.
OK dunno what's going on down there but the pain totally seemed to disappear today. But then it came back, right on the top/front of my adams apple. Basically the front on my neck/throat, totally different to previously. Felt like it was near the surface to touch and actually looked a little bit swollen, just slightly (the skin that is, no lumps).
Felt like I had pulled a muscle badly or been punched there!
I haven't had my tonsils out by the way, could that be a cause?.
