Throat pain follows intense exercise, corelation consistent for years

by Base the Bass, Sep 20, 2007 07:01AM
For at least 10 years now,I go to the gym and practice some boxing.Usually I am one step before exhausted after each boxing session.Problem is,very frequently,at least 50% of the time, the other morning I get a throat pain that lasts from a day to weeks.I have been of course at a doctor and had a laryngoscopy that didn't show anything.Withdrawing from the exhausting exercise, seems to solve the problem.
For 2 years I had quit the gym and almost never had throat pain. While in the period of time I attended the gym,I had at least 5 incidents a year that lasted for a month or more.

The clinical examination sometimes reveals nothing and other times it gives signs of a throat infection, with 1 or 2 lymph nodes in my neck being sore.Sometimes the infection climbs deeper in my bronchial tree.At these cases I usually get an antibiotic and this solution works fine, but I can't of course get antibiotics for life if I want to exercise.

I am a med student myself and can't figure this out.I have consulted with colleagues but the problem remains and I haven't heard of an explanatory answer.I am thinking, maybe a weird microorganism resistant to antibiotics, positioned in my throat that wakes up every time my immune system is down due to a exhaustion?other colleagues have disagreed with that theory.
thanks for any answers!

I get a sore throat and a pain in my left arm now when I exercise. I thought it was heart related as I also had arrythmias recently, but I've cleared two stress tests and a left side angiogram. If you have learned anything more about your problem or think you can address mine, please let me know. Thanks.  B
