Tinnitus. Please help. I am much desperate.

I m Afzaal 47 years. Suffering from left year constant tinnitus for the last 20 years. Digital hearing aid in left ear is also not supporting. Left ear dB is above 70 and right ear in above 50. Doctors told that it will go with the life. In 1988 gone through Polyp operation due inferior turbinate. I am sure that my ear tube is blocked somewhere as once very earlier lot of thick wax was removed through suction tube. No doctor is willing to operate it. By audiologist this disease is named as OTOSECLORASIS (may be spellings incorrect). A lot of antibiotics, vitamins, minerals and brain tonics have taken. Frequent use of antibiotics have caused other complications. Antibiotics used by me, if were given to a donkey, definitely it might have dead, wonder how alive I am ? Much desperate and depreseed. Please do suggest some useful medicines. By profession I am a Stenographer. Afzaal, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Dear Afzaal--so, does your doctor believe you DON'T have otosclerosis?

I do not know anything about remedies for sinuses or tinnitus or the company you refer to, and I am not an expert of any sort--just a person who has hearing loss and dizziness and has done some reading. I have NO medical training or expertise whatsoever, so please do NOT base any of your decisions on my opinions!

I do not personally believe in homeopathy. I know a lot of people do believe in it, but I personally would not spend money or time on it.

If you can, try to find another doctor and get another opinion on your problems.

Best wishes and good luck!

Dear Afzaal--I am sorry I cannot suggest anything, as I know very little about these conditions, but may I ask why the doctor won't operate if you have otosclerosis? I know there is an operation for it.

Why have you been given so many antibiotics? Those are only useful for infections, certainly not for tinnitus.

Tinnitus is difficult, but some people find it bothers them less if they take a small dose of an anti-anxiety drug such as lorazepam or klonazepam. Of course, consult with your doctor before trying any such drugs.

Here are some authoritative Web sites on otosclerosis and tinnitus, although you have probably done some research yourself already. The pages on Dr. Hain's Web site at www.dizziness-and-balance.com are especially detailed and informative.
