i have like car engine going on in my ear i tried claritin and afrin it did help temporarily i am worried. ple give any suggestion it driving me crazy specially when i am driving or the air condition sound in the buildings.
thanks
I'm glad the zyrtec & afrin helped, but afrin is quite addictive. Nasal steroids aren't, and can help as well
I would recommend being tested beyond 8,000 Hz. Essentiall all hearing tests test out to 8,000 Hz, you may have damaged your hearing beyond 8,000 Hz. Although most hearing loss due to noise occurs around 4-6K Hz. Question, even if your hearing was within normal limits, but you had a dip in your hearing thresholds within the 4-6K Hz, there is your problem.
Truth is, in most cases there is some healing, some recovery, and some aleviation of the symptoms your are having. What few concerts I have gone to, I used ear plugs. Call me crazy, but the sound is so loud, I don't think I miss a thing.
On July 4, 2007, I attended a rock concert with a friend of mine. Previous concerts I attended were never too loud. Therefore, it did not cross my mind to even bring any sort of ear protection. All I could think of was to have a good time and to show that to the guy who bought my ticket. He had a slight hearing problem, but he could hear me so I didn’t think too much of it. It was a rain or shine concert, and as Mother Nature would have it, it did rain. We were rained on as we waited to gain entry into the amphitheater. We made our way somewhere close to the stage and the left speaker panel - maybe 6-10 feet. There were quite a few people in front of us and closer to the speakers. We wanted to be able to see the performing artists, not only hear them. As we waited for the bands to get ready, the amphitheater was becoming more packed with other concertgoers and radio music played loudly over the speakers. Then, finally, the big moment arrived. The actual concert started with Red. Later to follow were Sick Puppies, Papa Roach, and Breaking Benjamin. I could feel the bass pulsating all through my body. I loved the music. I was in the moment. It was not until during the third band’s performance that I feel something happening with my ears. I don’t recall thinking too much of it at the time. I thought that was probably normal at a rock concert. During the fourth and final performance, I was becoming worried. My ears felt very uncomfortable. I went to the restroom, where the music could still be loudly heard, and stuffed my ears with toilet paper. I asked some of the other ladies if what I was feeling was normal. Some said yes and others said I may have hurt my ears. I was discouraged at that point to go back to the front with my friend. I decided to sit on a curb in the back for the last half of Breaking Benjamin’s show. My friend and I finally left. We both experienced that swimmers’ ear feeling. Everything sounded muffled. My body ached all over from jumping up and down so much. After a few hours or the next day, that pain and the muffled feeling would pass. I didn’t expect what happened afterwards. I got a horrible ringing in my ears, most of which seemed to be in my left ear but was in my right too. I thought it would pass, all I needed was to go to sleep, and in a couple of days, it would pass, as well. I could not sleep, though. I could not sleep a decent night’s sleep for the next few days. It drove me crazy. I had to endure this sound day and night. There was no break from it, not even sleep. My body was becoming exhausted. I cried everyday. I cried at night. When I cry, I tend to get sick for a week. I was a wreck. It drove my father crazy, as well. I know he did not like to see me this way. I do not believe he fully understood how insane I was being driven, though. How could he? He could sleep. I decided to do some research on tinnitus, or the ringing in my ears, to see if anything could be done. Some websites stated that I needed to rest. That sounded good, but I couldn’t sleep on my own. Quite a few websites stated that some people with tinnitus take melatonin to help them sleep. I tried it. It made my body very heavy and tried, but my mind stayed awake the whole night. My father bought me a sleep aid, which also failed to put my mind to sleep. My father then brought me to the emergency room for a powerful injection to make me sleep. This somewhat helped. I may have slept two hours. However, it, too, failed to give me any real results. On Sunday, July 8, 2007, I decided to look to Divine intervention. My father told me no one would be at a church at noon to 1 PM. The first church that I stopped at was the Christian Revival Center. The pastor was there. I asked him for help. He put oil on my forehead and he prayed to the Lord for my healing. He then told me to come to the 6 PM service. The pastor told me that on any other Sunday he would not have been there at that time. However, their toilet was giving them trouble and the plumber was there to fix it at the time I showed up. That was God working. I went to that 6 PM service and many people prayed for my healing. In the next day or so, I talked myself into calling an acupuncturist. In my earlier research, I had found that acupuncture helps some people lesson the symptoms of the tinnitus. I made an appointment with the only acupuncturist that was opened at 6 AM. I went to the 1:20 PM appointment. Dr. Thomas looked me over and said that acupuncture may not help me since my tinnitus was most likely noise-induced. I was crushed. He told me that he would not charge me and about a doctor in Corpus Christi that deals with tinnitus. I did not know if I could afford it, though. He told me to go there and tell them how serious in need of help I was. I was in need of help. I had thought that death might be better than living with this. I drove to the office of Dr. McClelland. After filling out papers and waiting for my other doctor to release my insurance information, the secretary told me that the doctor is ready to see me. He looked in my ears and said there was no visible damage. He gave me a hearing test. I had passed the hearing test. I asked him what if I had hearing loss anyway. He showed me what the charts would have looked like had I damaged my hearing. He said my Eustachian tubes were swollen and that I need not worry about the ringing. He said it would go away. He told me not to focus on it, otherwise I would get a psychological ringing or something. He gave me a prescription for Zyrtec and told me to take Afrin. Since then, I have been able to sleep. I do not only thank the doctor and the medicines, I thank God and Jesus. I still have the ringing but either it is not as bad or I am becoming adjusted to it. I continue to pray to the Lord for a complete recovery from the tinnitus. I remember that when I was in the waiting room at Dr. McClelland’s office I talked about my condition to another girl my age and her grandmother. My purpose was to inform her of what could happen if she went to a concert unprotected and uneducated, as I was. I also recall saying that I would not wish what I had on the devil himself. I would not wish it on anyone. But, I feel that I may need another opinion. I can't live with this sound. I can't. I wrote the above piece earlier - the ringing is there. I still cry about it. It's July 20 today. I don't know what to do. I still pray. But, I feel like there's somthing else I need to do. I need help. I will go insane. Can somebody help me?
But that's the thing she didn't help me! She told me she has Tinnitus live with it!
I wrote the company that make's LIPFLAVOID they mailed me 4 month's to try and send back a questionaire, i am a tester for the tinnitus lipflavoid. it's been 4 months and still waiting to see a ENT Doctor! So far the pass few day's my pitch as lowered. but still have it 24/7! It's more bearable!
Go see your regular doctor if the ENT visit is so long from now.
Your regular doctor can help you too.

Clearing out cerumen (wax) from the canal should remove any symptoms related to the wax blockage. Ringing that persists afterwards is not likely due to that reason.
Call your doctor for more advice.
