Tonsilectomy

Hi, I hope someone can help me.  When I was 3 I had my tonsils and adenoids removed.....Last month I had tonsilitis, didn't think anything of it...Came home told my mother and she said you couldn't have you had a tonsilectomy.

Well, this morning I went to the dr because I had another sore throat for the past 4 days.  Once again was told tonsilitis.  I said something to my dr and he said that they regrew and his exact words was "Man are they huge".

I have never had a problem until now.  So my ? is if I  keep getting tonsilitis, would removing them again be a problem. What would that be worse for an adult as say a child.

Thanks....

Ps.  I was told that having your tonsils regrow puts you at a higher risk now for throat cancer.  Is this true.

I am 30 years old and I had my tonsils removed on the 5th October. I have found the pain excruciating (sorry). However, a friend of mine who is older had the same op about a month ago and didnt find it half as bad.

I would recommend that you ask them to a strong painkiller before you leave hospital because I was sent home with paracetomol and ibuprofen and they really didnt touch the pain I started to feel on from day 4 onwards. Very interesting what you say about pain coming back between day 7 and 11 - no one told me but I am on day 7 and would agree this seems to be the case. i was just told that day 4 and 5 would be the worst !!

I tried to get home visit but they wouldnt come and then only reluctantly sent me a prescription for something stronger. I was put on diclofenac but even this doesnt seem to be enough (aside from first dose which worked really well) so im now trying to get something better....

I'm having my tonsils out on 12/21.  I had also heard that it was pretty bad having it done as an adult.  The only thing the doctor could tell me was that the area tended to be a lot bigger as an adult which would cause more pain.  Another thing he said is that the pain is manageable in the first couple post-op days but then the pain comes back with a vengeance 7-11 days post-op and this is because the scabs come off...

I haven't heard that about the regrowing tonsils and throat cancer so I can't answer that question.
