Tonsils now?

So on top of my Post Nasal Drip, the throat clearing, the throat that feels tight all the time, the throat that always feels dry irregardless of how much water I drink (it only feels better during "mid swallow"), and the fact that I think my voice has changed - deeper, raspier, and all this for a sustained period of seven years after being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, I now believe I have Tonsilitis!

My tonsils appear to be redder and inflamed, looks like there's a big round lump on one of them.

I have the kind of GP's who won't do anything, they don't refer me, they don't give me antibiotics, or anything else, they just blame sinusitis, or rhinitis and give me steroidal nasal sprays which don't work while Im still full of mucous and phlegm since the start of January, the Tonsils are now really freaking me out.

They're not coated or anything, they just look big, red, firm to touch with a lump on one of them.

This don't seem right to me.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Simon

Sorry for the delay in replying. I didn't get back to the forum because I've only just seen the doc.

I've obviously done a bit of patient research into this.

There are a number of things that can cause throat problems, Post Nasal Drip being one of them. But of course, in most cases IIRC Post Nasal Drip is a symptom of something else, such as Sinusitis or Rhinitis. Even then, those can be symptoms of other things, from a physiological abnormality like Polyps, to an atrophy of the mucous membranes , to allergies, and all sorts of things.

Well, I've been trying Olive Leaf Nasal extract which sort of works, and I used one of the empty bottles and filled it with salt water which does actually clear my nose (congested sinuses too), and it has somewhat cleared my nose to the point I can breathe through my nose now, but I still have the throat issues, and I still don't have a clue what's causing the rest of my symptoms.

I've had the steroidal nasal sprays with no joy, steam with no joy... Im at a loss, and my doctors can't say anything.

The biggest thing they see is the tonsils but they would advise against taking them out - and I would agree with them.

So I've got a referral to ENT hoping I can see just what in the hell is going on. I've had enough.

For all I know I've got something going on down there that the GP with a light on the end of a stick can't see. So, tough Mr GP, I want a scope.

It could be Gerd or LRP (the Gerd without heartburn), it could still be a nasal issue, or it could be something else entirely.

In terms of the dryness, it kind of feels like my tongue feels dry but wet at the same time, and that goes right down my throat to just above the breast bone I think, well, where the neck meets the chest.

I saw my GP last week, trying some Difflam mouthwash - sort of antibacterial analgaesic or something.

It seems to make my throat feel much better which makes me think there is some physical issue.

Bizarrely when im gargling, I eventually get a feeling like there's something stuck at the back of my throat - but only when Im gargling.

Anyhow, the GP said my tonsils are huge and he's surprised that I don't feel any thing wrong from them.

Of course I don't know if I feel anything wrong - to me they feel normal. There's no pain, but there is that feeling further in my throa.

I wonder if the two are related?

Im NHS in UK, should be getting everything for free.

Does the Tonsil issue frighten anyone else? Is it a symptom of a much much larger issue? Or is it just a response to a routine infection that I really will get over within a week.

Thanks

I'd ask to be referred to an ENT and insist on it. Do you have insurance?  If you have a PPO, you don't need a referral.
