Tonsils??

I have to get my Tonsils removed in November ne one have any advice to for me im super scared and i heard that it is VERY painful. I am the age of 23 years old and i heard that the older you get the more painfull it is! anyone?

You have heard it rightly, indeed post tonsillectomy adults do suffer from pain the reason being chronic tonsillitis leading to fibrosis of the tonsillar bed and lower tolerance to pain in adults. No need to worry, go ahead post operative you will be definitely be given analgesics (pain killers). Pain will be there for maximum one week. All the best.

     I had my tonsils out couple of years ago at age 41 and Had it rough for the 1st week.  I couldn't eat but drink lots of liquid. If working you should be able to go back after a couple of weeks. after surgery you'll notice white scab in the area of tonsils this is normal. you'll feel great afterward so good luck

I had my tonsils removed as a child, however, my PCP, an ER physician, an ENT and a pulmonologist/allergist have all told me that my tonsils have grown back, so I'm looking at having to have them removed again due to recurrent infections.  Surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, as (knock on wood), I haven't had an infection since March of this year, so I'm hoping it can be postponed as long as possible.

I was old enough when I had it done as a child (I was 7 and I'm 47 now) to remember it (back then you went into the hospital the night before the operation and was in for 2-3 days) - the recovery then wasn't too horrible - of course my throat was sore, but I don't really recall it being much worse than the cases of tonsillitis had been.  Of course, kids definitely bounce back so much easier than adults.

My advice would be pretty much the same as if it was a child getting the operation - stock up on popsicles, ice pops, ice cream, jello, pudding, lots of liquids (but stay away from acidic ones like orange juice).  The more moist you can keep your mouth and throat, the better it's going to feel - as your throat dries out, it's only going to stretch those tender areas and that's going to make it hurt more.

Also, if they give you pain medication after the surgery, think about asking them for it in liquid form (if it comes that way in whatever they prescribe) - some meds do have a liquid form available and you may find that much easier to get down and keep down.  However, keep in mind that if you do get a liquid medication, it's IMPERATIVE that you use a dosing spoon for measuring your dose and NOT a household spoon - that way you're sure you're getting the correct amount.

They do give a liquid pain med i know that for sure that was one of the questions i asked because i take pills on a daily basis and i wanted to know if i was able to take them are not. I didnt know that tonsils could grow back! I learn something knew everyday that is CRAZY! I am an opera singer who was told recently that I have to take my tonsils taking out. I have been having that tonsil condition since I was a kid but it always went away after a couple of days but now it gets worse. When I have it, the tonsils close my throat preventing me to swallow and even make it hard to breath. Will taken them out change my singing voice?
