Turbinate Reduction TCRF vs. Electrocautery

by mvvaughn, Apr 14, 2009 06:30PM
Hi,

I've have working with an ENT to help address chronic sinus related issues that I won't fully get into here.  He is recommending an in office Turbinate Reduction procedure using Electrocautery.  I’ve been researching it a bit and I see there are various methods including Radiofrequency (RF) ablation.

I haven’t been able to find out if one is better than the other, my ENT only offers Electrocautery.  Are there any plusses or minus with one or the other? Radiofrequency (RF) ablation from what I’ve read seems to be least invasive but long-term results seem unclear.  Does Electrocautery have better long term results?

Just trying to figure out if I should consult with an ENT that performs Radiofrequency (RF) ablation for the procedure or if really makes that much of a difference.

Thanks
