Unsure about Tonsillectomy - Advice needed pls

32 yo Asian male. 2-3 occurrence of tonsillitis per year. cervical nodes near throat are tender.

My tonsillitis basically is severe pain for a few days, then usually subsides after a week on antibiotics. I rarely get fever. It does mean a few days off work. Happens often when I travel for work as I hardly get any sleep on flights.

I'm close to recovering from another bout, but went to see an ENT this time. Did a scope. Diagnosis was chronic tonsillitis (picture shows a couple of small white spots on the tonsils, which ENT says could blow up again the next time my immune system drops). He says my tonsils will do more harm then good from now on, and antibiotics is is harmful and not the long term answer. ENT recommends tonsillectomy.

While I trust the ENT, he seemed to recommend tonsillectomy very quickly. I'm not 100% convinced and is trying to seek a 2nd opnion as it is a big deal to me and I need to know if it is really neccesary, or should I try to boost my immune system to counter future attacks.

Many Thanks

I'd get it done! Admittedly my son was a kid when he had his tonsils and adenoids (adenoids) removed because of constantly recurring  tonsillitis but it was the best decision I ever made. He suffered less during the winter months, which is how it'll be for you. You will keep getting tonsillitis until they are removed. So do you want to have the operation and be in pain for a short time or do you want to suffer in pain many times over from recurring tonsillitis? :)
