Vertigo after travel

Vertigo after travel

I recently was on a trip in which I traveled by airplane for approximately 7 hours in each direction. Leaving for the trip, I felt no dizziness, however upon arriving at my destination, I became very dizzy and nauseous. This was not during the plane ride, but instead the second day after my arrival. I have never experienced vertigo before but it is what I am assuming I am experiencing. It was much worse when it began, I would be looking straight ahead and then it was as if the world suddenly came closer or tilted to the side, much like being on a boat. After a few seconds, it would return to normal. Another minute or so and it would repeat. I returned from the trip three days later. It has now been a week since the symptoms began. The vertigo is nowhere near as severe as it was when it began, but the nausea is constant. Could my plane travel has caused this or exacerbated a condition that was already there? It is not the first time I have traveled by plane and I have never had a problem before. I am seeing a doctor in a week for a different, although possibly related, problem with my mouth and jaw. Any suggestions?

This sounds like "mal de debarquement syndrome", in which the brain finds difficult to adapt back to 'motionlessness', as opposed to motion sickness.

It is a rare condition and is observed after ship curise. ('Land sickenss' as opposed to 'sea-sickness').  But has been said to reported after flights as well.

The usual medications for vertigo are found useful in many situations. In some cases this uncomfortable feel may persist for a few months. For a proper diagnosis and management, you have to meet an ENT specialist

But since you are feeling better already, it may be okay.
