Vocal Cord surgery

Anyone have story to share on vocal cord surgery? My doctor says one side is bigger than the other and wants to make an incision and remove liquid/gel to deal with my hoarseness. He says one side does not vibrate like the other side. I am a singer and am scared to do this for fear I will not be able to sing.
