Worried about my son's tonsils painless infections

by KarineLuca, Apr 26, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, my son who's 4 has had 5 different episodes of these strange symptoms in the past 9 months: inflamed tonsils with pus, high fever, and the lymph nodes in the neck are really noticeable. It's never strep (quick tests negative). I guess what worries me the most is the fact that he never complains despite the fact that the tonsils look bad, red and big, almost touching each others sometimes. We've seen pediatricians, infectuous disease specialists. We've had blood tests done for mono (negative)and blood counts which all came back okay. The next step is to go and see a ENT - so we are following it closely, but I can't help being worried about it. Tonsils and nodes do go back to normal sizes after a while. IN march, we had a week of fever, and almost 2 weeks of inflamed tosils.  7 weeks later, he's sick again with the same symptoms although maybe not as severe as the last time. When it happens, he is not that unwell, eats and drinks plenty, gets tired but I would put that on the fever. The various doctors always call it another viral infection...

any similar cases or insight would be more than welcome - or maybe ideas on other things that we could do.

thanks!

To: Hand sanitizer and the difference among sick/well
Using hand sanitizer and washing his hands with warm water and soap would help as well as assisting him with a good habit of blowing his nose.  Blowing after he sneezes, after he is out in the cold, after a meal of hot or cold food, after a bath or shower and all the other usual times we blow our nose.  That way the germs don't go down his throat and make his lymph system work so much overtime.  It is difficult to teach children a good habit without constant interventions.

My son has the exact same symptoms. The only difference is that they said he is borderline anemic.
