Would you recommend Ear Pit surgery before getting infected?

My 3 year old daughter has ear pits on both ears - no infection yet. How do you think of removing them before they get infected? I know a very experienced ENT doctor in my town, and want him to do this surgery before we leave this town this summer since it is hard to find such a great doctor in a new town. I thought the surgery would be relatively simpler when the ear pits are smaller and have no infection. Another reason of doing surgery now is that my daughter may care how people think of her ear pits when she grows up, so I think eventually ear pits need to go away through surgery at some point.  I heard they may grow really wide, and the surgery may involve huge incision if it's done late. Now doctor says the scar will be just glued without stitches, and the surgery will be simple. But I just saw you tube video on the surgery and got scared. And the side effects, and high recurrence rate scare me too.I even read articles on ear pits, and one article claimed the surgery should be reserved as a solution to infection, although they didn't have enough data to support their claim. My daughter needs ear tube surgery anyway, and I should choose whether to do ear pit surgery with it, or do only ear tube.. Should I leave the ear pits unoperated until they get infected or do you think it's worth doing it now?  I look forward to your opinions. Thanks in advance.

One could probably make arguments for either position.  I would advocate having this done now for all of the reasons you listed.  The overwhelming majority, for whom this goes well, do not post YouTube videos.  This is naturally going to skew your sense of danger.  I would let the doc you found take care of these.

Thanks a lot for your comments. I'm glad you advocate having surgery done before getting infected. You're right - People whose surgery were successful mostly don't post their stories. And I know a mom who had her two kids have ear pit surgeries from this doctor. She said her kids have had no problem since the surgery.
Now I think I have almost decided to get that done. Thank you very much!

Hi One of my 4 year old twins has an ear pit that has never been infected nor caused her a day of trouble...However our ENT recommends that we have it removed due to the risk of infection..She has already had a CT of the area & no abcess (abscess) was found..Should we have the surgery?  & Does the risk of infection with an ear pit this outweigh the risk of surgery?..Thank You Very Much..
