bad smell in my nose

bad smell in my nose

I have had a very gross horrible smell in my nose that comes and goes depending on certian things.  i really cant describe the smell other than when i have it i can't eat anything or even drink water because it alters my taste.  i am 23 and i have had it since i was 18. i have gone to a regular doctor who said it was sinusitis, but it's not. then i went to a allergy doctor.  they tested me for allergies and i have a lot.  dogs, cats, pollen, ragweed, you name it outside i got it. but i take zyrtec and that helps a little but not the smell in my nose, so they sent me to an ear nose and throat doctor. he looked up my nose and had me get a cat scan. they found out i have a deviated septum, so using a saline rinse kit won't work because it won't come out the right side of my nose.  i am so frustrated because every doctor i see looks at me stupid and basically says "That's weird" and then does nothing about it.  i have found out what triggers the smell and what can make it go away for a little while but not forever.  air conditioning, crying, and when i smell people cooking/baking food like pizza or cookies, trigger the smell, what does make it go away is if i hang upsidedown. it's the pressure that makes it go away.  i need HELP!!! what is wrong with me?

A godawful persistent odor in the nose is not uncommon on this forum, and there can be many causes, but the most common one is anaerobic bacteria infecting the sinuses, which often does not show up on scans, or doctors looking up your nose.  It usually lodges in the upper sinuses, up past the septum, so antibiotics and regular saline sinus rinses won't reach it.  The only way to beat that I've seen so far is the Flip-Turn Sinus Flush, which requires that you bend over to defeat gravity and get saline into the upper sinuses.  It's risky, because you have to bend over, preferably in a shower, but you can do it outside on soft ground, plus you are young and you have already tried the bending over thing.

I've cured the problem 3 times with this technique, the second 2 times because it grew back, so make sure you do it for a few days after the problem seems to go away.  I have no more sinus problems.  The only reason you may need surgery is to fix the deviated septum if it is a continuing problem.
