Hello, I am a healthy 29 yr old non-smoking, non-drinking male. My dilemma is that for the previous 2 or 3 years, I have had an enlarged right tonsil.
Both of my tonsils are swollen, but the right is much worse than the left. As long as I can remember, I have had chronc head and throat problems. I had multiple ear infections (always in the right ear) and my ear drum busted twice as a grade schooler.
Since my early teen years, I have had chronic sore throats and it usually seemed to be the most red and inflamed on the right side. This was visible with a mirror.
I finally had sinus surgery in 2002 because my sinus cavity was full of poyps, growths, swellings from what my ENT said was "repeated inflammation and sinus infections." The right side of my sinuses were 100% blocked.
I only say that my right tonsil enlarged after this surgery because I have no remembrance of the DR. referring to this abnormality. But since that time, I always remember the tonsil looking this way.
Eighteen months ago, I had a case of tonsillitis and bronchitis, the DR. ran a complete blood panel (cbc, sed rate, metabolic panel, ana, strep) everything was normal except for the test showing strep in my blood. The condition cleared up and I was then treated with Z-pack and medrol for the strep.
What does anyone know or think about this tonsil asymettry? Is it plausible to think that cancer could be in my tonsil and have been there for the past several years? The tonsil, while enlarged, has not gotten any bigger during this time and has in fact shrank a few times. Any ideas???
