ear tubes help!!

ear tubes help!!

Basically ive had ear tubes inserted (grommets/t-tube) and adenoids (adenoids) taken out. The pressure feels ok, although after a week of having the grommets placed in, i still hear my own voice strangly when i talk!! What is this? iit doesnt sound the same as when i hear other people speak (which is clear). This feeling sounds louder and more echoey!!! what is this?? how do i help get rid of this?? its been like this since the day of the operation. Can some1 help pleae, as communicating and socializing with people is hard as i dont know how loud or clear i speak.
Any comments helpful thanks

Hawkings,

Get a hearing evaluation...  because without it everything is pure conjecture. What you describe sounds like a conductive hearing loss (speaking in a barrel etc.)

But that is conjecture...  get tested (by an audiologist) and find out it you have a conductive hearing loss.

Don't panic...  trust me, this is not permanent....  OK...  you will be fine, and this is not lethal, anoying yes, but in the long run you will be fine.

Take care

hey Wear/a/Jimmy

Thanks for the reply you sent me yesterday, much appreciated. I have been to 5 audiologist tets this year and they are all fine, it was just the eustation tube problem. However, with these grommets placed in, i can hear well, however, when i speak, it sounds like im speaking through my ears!! Does that make sense?

Thanks for listening

Sorry Hawkings, "speaking through your ears" although may be a vallid discripion of what is going on, I don't follow it.

Now most people with a conductive loss state that when they talk that it sounds as though their head is in a barrell. Actually I would say about 95% of all people say something to that effect.

You may have have 5 audiogram, but middle ear status can change PDQ. So again, you may want to consider getting an evaluation. If money is a concern, ask for tympanometry testing only. This will not show you actual thresholds, but it will tell you 2 very important things.

1) middle ear status.... meaning is the middle ear functioning correctly (if not you can suspect a conductive loss)

2) if your tubes are functioning or not

Or you can ask for an air and bone threshold test.

I think for both tests you could expect to pay around 100$.  An ENT visit may be also required, if so you will need to bring your accountant, & a loan office from your bank.
