enlargened epiglottis

enlargened epiglottis

I am 26 years old and about four days ago I was brushing my tongue and noticed that I can visibly see my epiglottis. It looks like a mini tongue. I've been feeling discomfort in my throat since my sister caught the flu a week ago, but I don't have a cough or flu becase I had the flu shot. Is it possible that my body is resisting the flu and causing my epiglottis to swell? Or is there another reason why my epiglottis is visible.

Your epiglottis could be mildly swollen and therefore more visible.  Or, perhaps you were just opening much more than you usually do and could then see the (normal) epiglottis.  If you have symptoms of inability to swallow or trouble breathing, you need to go to the E.R.
