excess saliva

mum had/has perforrated ear drum, at the same time she was diagnosed with this she seems as if she has excess fluid/saliva in her throat that she needs to keep discharging, no mucous/fluid ever comes down her nose, its as if its all dripping down the back of her throat instead. is there any connection to perforrated ear drum
