fluid in the ear and ringing in one ear

I started having a really clogged up ear almost 2 weeks ago. Then that ear started ringing (tinnitus) I guess is what they call it...the doctor first prescribed me on amoxicillin antibiotic. That didnt really do anything. At first I thought it was getting better then I went to the gym one night and worked out and I felt real good then I took some creatine not thinking if would be a big deal but maybe I should looked into more but then my left ear started ringing and it didn't stop until 2 days later I went back to the doctors and they flushed my left ear out with hydrogen peroxide and water. They got a big ball of wax out. My left ear stopped ringing right after that it was great and relieving. Then they prescribed me on a stronger antibiotic called Ceruflexine Axetil and also Nasonex. Apparently the doctor said I soundded like I have a sinus infection. She said I sounded congested in the nasal area which I didn't even realize. So then when I got home I noticed that my other ear (the right ear) now is ringing a little bit but it didn't feel nowhere near clogged as my left one did. The doctors didn't even think to flush the right ear out that day because they said there wasnt enough ear wax in it at all. So I took the nasonex that day and started my new antibiotic that night. That was on last Saturday on 2/16/13 then sunday monday tuesday went by my one ear was still ringing and I went back to the doctors office on tuesday morning she tried flushing it out a little bit with some water but she said there really wasn't any wax in there so she told to just keep taking the antibiotics and nasonex. Which yea there is probably some fluid behind my ear drum or something cuz I do feel some pressure in it. but ten 2 days later on thursday I took the nasonex a little bit later then I usually did the past couple of days. I noticed that at first my ringing was real low but then all of the sudden as soon I took the nasonex my ear ringing got a lot louder out nowhere and it also kind of started in the other a little bit then that went away. But my right ear kept buzzing loud for a couple of hours but then later that night around 1am in the morning I noticed that I didn't hear any ringing at all. I was happy but I was wide awake and not tired at all I couldn't go to sleep I was thinking it was because I took the nasonex a little later then I usually do. I took it at 6pm at night when the past couple of days before I have taken around 3pm. So then I decided to get in a warm shower so maybe it would make me tired. But then I soon as I got out of the shower I realized that my ringing came back and it was a lot louder again and hurting my ear. So i didnt end up falling asleep that night until about 6am in the morning because the ringing was bothering me so much. So I havent been taking the nasonex at all for the past 2 days.I was real nervous to take it because I didnt want the ringing to get louder. So I got a hold of my doctor on the phone and I told her how when I took the nasonex the ringing got real loud and everything. She said I dont have to take it. Just to stick with the antibiotics.  If I'm not better by monday which its friday night right now she is going to send me to ENT specialist. But my question is should I go back to taking the nasonex? Was it a good thing that the nasonex made it louder because maybe it was just cleaning my ear out from the fluid, since it stopped ringing completely later that night which it hasnt done all week. But I dont know because it was a lot more irritating that night then ever! When I got out of the hot shower. I'm starting to think maybe the hot shower could be whats really irritating it more. Right now I'm just taking the antibiotic and it ends tomorrow morning on saturday at 2/23/13. I just want to know if should take the nasonex over the weekend if my ear is still ringing. I'm not sure what to do?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. There are tubes called ‘Eustachian tubes’ which connect the middle ear to the throat, this balances the air pressure in the ears. This tube can get blocked due to infections of the throat, which can give lead to a feeling of fullness in the ears. This can also result in infection of the ears and tinnitus. Tinnitus should resolve once the infection subsides. So, continue with your medications. In addition, the blocked ears can be opened up by the valsalva maneuver, where air is blown into the cheeks against a closed nostrils, this sometimes helps to open up the tubes. Steam inhalations and warm salt water gargles can help clear the tube. Take Care

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it. I'm already done taking the antibiotics. I haven't taken the Nasonex lately. But there is still a little bit of ringing in my ear. I actually took some Mucinex and I did feel less pressure in my ear. I am thinking about also taking benadryl right now maybe that will give a chance for the fluid run out of my ear. I am going to see the ENT specialist tomorrow. What do you think I should you think I should take some bendryl before I go to sleep tonight?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Nasonex may help to relieve the congestion, so take the spray. Anti-histamines like Benadryl may help, but sometimes they can make the secretions thick. You could take anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen. Ensure to take these after meals to avoid gastritis. Also, do salt water gargles and steam inhalation before your meals as sometimes they can induce vomiting.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hey how are you doing? Its been a couple of weeks...I haven't been on here for a while bit hanks for your replys back...my ear is still ringing a little bit it's been a month I saw the ENT specialists and he prescribed me anti-inflammatory steroid...the ringing def. Went down a little bit. Then we waited a week and then he told to take ibuprofen. Which at first I didn't think was a bad idea. But I looked it up online and I'm seeing that ibuprofen can cause permanent or temporary tinnitus. Or even make tinnitus worse. So I'm really nervous to take it so I hadnt taking all week. But I did take one today. Because I called the ENT specialist back and I said to them how I read this stuff online and he he knows when I'm talking about. But he still thinks I should take it. So do you think I should take it? Do you think I'm just looking into it to much?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

According to studies done Ibuprofen causes tinnitus in 1% to 3% of the people taking the medication. But this could be dose related. Higher doses for prolonged periods may produce tinnitus. You can start this anti inflammatory medication, if your tinnitus is worsening, you can stop the same. And usually tinnitus which is induced because of a medication is reversible, it stops on stopping the medication. Take Care & Wish you a speedy recovery.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hey whats going on? yea I took the iburoofen for a week a while ago it didn't get worse it wall. I ended up being okay but I do still have a little bit of tinnitus. It's nowhere near as loud and annoying as it was so I guess it is getting better. My ENT is telling me it's not permanent since I don't have any hearing loss or anything. ITs just Eustachian Tube Dysfunction he says its the after math from my infection 2 months ago. He said its not unusual at all that's it's still gong on. He's telling me its gong to go away completely in time the tube just needs to heal again. He didn't tell me to take anything else, my question do you think I can take Sudafed for a couple of days? Maybe it could speed up the recovery? cause I'm not real congested or anything anywhere else my ears just keep popping every time I swallow. So I don't know if I should take Sudafed or not since I'm not congested anywhere else. I don't whether I should Just keep doing the Nasonex and nothing else and wait n see? or if I should take some Sudafed and see what that does. Im not usually a person that takes medicines a lot I usually just like to work out and exercise a lot and let my body take care of it. But I never had tinnitus for 2 months before haha...but I'm just wondering what would be the better alternative do you think? try some Sudafed for a couple of days or just let it go and wait and see

I am having this issue now.  It's driving me crazy.  It's only in my left ear.  I went to the ER.  The doc said my ear was full of wax.  The doc flushed my ear out however the ringing is still there.  The first night after flushing my ears the sound was worse.  Now the sound is a little better but still annoying.  I am on nasonex.  I do not think that it is working.  How long should I wait to expect results.
